ALTOONA — Iowa Democrats held their 2024 party convention at a horse track in Altoona this weekend and are deliriously ready to bet they will somehow win elections in solid red Iowa this November.

Democrats from across Iowa claim to be “fired-up,” and gathered for the 2024 IDP State Convention stood united Saturday as they listened to speeches by party leaders, elected delegates to the Democratic National Convention and built a new platform.

“Today marks the beginning of a great journey to get more Democrats elected and we need everyone to be involved. Find the thing that you can do that you can contribute to this effort and do it in spades. It’s going to be a long, hard haul until November. Let’s support each other. Let’s encourage each other. Let’s do this hard work together because that’s the only way it can be accomplished.

“I’m thankful for all the delegates who gathered today and for the volunteers who helped host a successful convention,” said IDP Chair Rita Hart.

Elected Democrats Jennifer Konfrst and Pam Jochum spoke at the state convention. U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris submitted a video to address the crowd. Congressional candidates Lanon Baccam, Sarah Corkery and Ryan Melton also spoke.

The reality, however, is that Iowa is a solid red state dominated by the GOP. There are many, many MAGA lovers in Iowa, who would give their kidney for Donald Trump. No one likes Kim Reynolds, though.
