John Miller, DVM, passed away April 27, 2024, at Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines. Memorial Services will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory in Hampton. Inurnment will be in the Hampton Cemetery. Woodley Funeral Home and Crematory of Hampton is caring for John and his family.
John Howard Miller was born February 27, 1938, in Hampton, to Howard and Mildred (Greier) Miller. Most of his formative years were spent on a farm north of Hampton.
John graduated from Hampton High School in 1956, then Iowa State University in 1964, as a veterinarian. He practiced in Ackley, Colesburg, and Riceville, IA, until the late 1980’s. He then worked for the USDA at packing plants in Iowa and Nebraska.
On July 15, 1973, John was united in marriage with Janice Lorenz Miller. When he retired in 2000, they moved to Arizona. They returned to Iowa in October 2023, to be near family.
John was a family man, a competitor who enjoyed any kind of games, especially playing cards. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and traveling.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Jan; son Heath (Lisa) Miller, Kellogg, IA; step-children; Christine Boelman, Harlan, IA; Scot (Elise) Miller, Richfield, OH; Mark Miller, Ackley, IA; grandchildren; Nicole (fiancé Art Bailey) Williams; Brandon (Josi) Miller; Izaak (fiancé Nattalie Kinnetz) Miller; Matthew (Katie) Miller; Meghan Miller; Katie Miller; Kelly Miller; great grandchildren; Eli; Dean; Mia; sister: Patricia (Frank) Brush; brother: Ryan (Carmen) Miller; sister-in-law: Sally Miller; and nieces, nephews and many friends.
John is preceded in death by his son-in-law Tom Boelman, grandson Ryan Boelman, and two brothers Alan and James Miller.
