OBIT: Bessie Woodwick

A memorial service for Bessie will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona. Burial will be held in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

A memorial service for Bessie will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Oakcrest Funeral Services in Algona. Burial will be held in East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

Bessie E. Woodwick was born in Fenton on September 12, 1937; daughter of George H. and Ida (Klinge) Bollinger. She grew up in the Fenton area and graduated from Fenton High School. Follow high school, Bess attended Nursing College in Marshalltown.

On October 26, 1957, she was united in marriage to Willis C. Woodwick in Fenton. Together, they made their home in Algona. Bess became an LPN and worked at St. Ann’s Hospital on the third floor until she became a mom.

Bess loved working outside in her yard and helping her children with their after-school paper routes. She also detasseled a few summers. Bess rejoined the work force in 1996 after Willie died. She got her CNA license and worked at the Algona Manor. Bess was always taking care of others.

Bess died Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Kossuth Regional Health Center. She was 86.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Gerald) Zeller of Algona; son, Mark (Shelly) Woodwick of Marion; grandchildren, Charlie and Faith Zeller, both of Algona; Aaron (Torrie) Woodwick of Cedar Rapids; brother, John Bollinger of Fenton; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband, Willis on December 18, 1995; son, William Scott on June 17, 1972; sisters, Lois (Don) Gurber, Doris Hilsabeck; and brother, Lloyd (Nancy) Bollinger.
