Dennis Kappel, 68, of Iowa Falls, passed away Friday, November 24, 2023 at his Iowa Falls home. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls.

Dennis Kappel, 68, of Iowa Falls, passed away Friday, November 24, 2023 at his Iowa Falls home. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls. He will be laid to rest at the Alden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, November 28 at the church. Woodley Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is caring for Denny and his family.

Dennis “Denny” Allen Kappel was born on November 3, 1955 to Raymond and Mary (Jones) Kappel at Franklin County Hospital in Hampton, Iowa. Denny grew up on the family farm north of Ackley. He was baptized at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Ackley. He graduated in 1974 from Ackley High School and from Hawkeye Tech in 1976.

Denny married Melissa Jordan in 1977. The couple has two children, Sara and Joseph. They later divorced. Denny married Darlene Gandy in 1984. The couple had one son, Dustin. The couple later divorced.

Denny was employed by Ivan’s Body Shop for 14 years and worked weekends at Phillips 66. He then worked for Carpenters at Iowa Falls Auto Body for 31 years.

Denny married Diane Doering in 2006. The couple enjoyed going to movies, taking short trips and looking at antiques together.

Hunting was Denny’s favorite hobby. He also did a lot of competition shooting at the Varmint Hunting Jamboree in Pierre, South Dakota, shooting out to five hundred yards. He also shot, one thousand yard matches in Pella, Iowa. His favorite matches were the two hundred yard matches he shot in Knoxville, Iowa. He competed for 17 years and never missed a match. Denny saw great success at these matches, including many first, second and third place finishes.

Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Diane Kappel; step sons, C.J. (Davey) Doering of Iowa Falls, Brian (Lisa) Doering of Alden; step daughter, Alyssa (Jake) Klaver of Kamrar; fourteen grandchildren; nephews, Nathan Kappel and Mitch Kappel; niece, Andrea DeGroote. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mary Kappel and brother, Dave Kappel.
