ROCKWELL – An elderly Mason City man sent his car soaring into a Rockwell bank, shattering a window and injuring himself.

On September 28, 2023, at approximately 4:32 PM, the Rockwell Police Department was dispatched to 319 Main Street East for a property damage collision. A 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by 82-year-old John Gasperi of Mason City was on the south end of 319 Main Street East (First Security Bank) when Gasperi put the vehicle in drive believing he put the vehicle in reverse, ended up going forward and colliding with the south end of the First Security bank shattering one of the front windows and disabling his vehicle. A Rockwell officer bandaged Gasperi’s arm from a small cut he occurred and Gasperi was then transported to Mercy One North Iowa complaining of knee pain.

Rockwell Police Department was assisted by off duty Rockwell Fire Department personal, off duty Rockwell-Swaledale EMS personal and Mason City Fire/Rescue.
