CLIVE — A Cerro Gordo County woman was looking forward to having evidence from the Iowa Lottery to prove to her husband that she really did win a prize of more than $10,000.
“He goes, ‘No! Nuh-uh!’ I said, ‘Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s a big winner,’” Coleen Buser said of her husband, Julius, on Tuesday as she claimed her prize at the lottery’s Mason City regional office. “He still can’t believe it until I take this check out to the car to show him.”
Buser (pictured, above, via Iowa Lottery), 57, of Meservey, won a jackpot prize of $10,542.20 in the Iowa Lottery’s “Cherry Twist Progressive” InstaPlay game. She bought five tickets in the game at Casey’s, 702 E. Gilman St. in Sheffield.
“It was the third one of my stack that I looked at,” Buser said of her winning ticket. “I thought, ‘Nah, it can’t be!’”
Buser, who works at a local nursing home, said she and her husband plan to use part of the winnings to replace a broken garage door.
The Cherry Twist Progressive jackpot starts at $2,000 and increases with each ticket sold statewide until it is won.
