AMES – Police investigated gunfire at the city hall building in Ames and a woman lost her life in the incident.
On August 29, 2023, at 5:58 p.m., the Ames Police Department responded to a report of a gunshot heard on the north side of City Hall, 515 Clark Avenue, near downtown (pictured above). Officers located a deceased female. Based on the initial investigation, the death appears to be from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The name of the female is being withheld pending notification of family.
The Ames Police Department continues to investigate this incident.
