MASON CITY – Mason City’s 12th Street NE road rehab project is progressing west and detours remain in place, city hall advised today.

The street closure limits for the 12th Street NE rehabilitation project (see image, above) will be modified and taking effect on Monday, July 31st, as utility work progresses west through Stage 2 of the project. This will affect the remainder of the project corridor, which begins at Federal Avenue and extends to Kentucky Avenue. Traffic is advised to use the posted detour and avoid the construction zone. The initial impact involves the closure of the intersection of Elm Drive. The intersection will be closed to traffic in all directions.

The intersection of Carolina Avenue will reopen to north-south traffic prior to the closing of Elm Drive. The Virginia Avenue intersection will also remain open to traffic for some time, but it will eventually be closed for the contractor to complete the paving of numerous street patches prior to placing the finished surface.

The expanded closure will extend travel time and cause delays for some travelers. Travelers will need to seek alternate routes on local streets to reach destinations. There will not be a signed detour around the work zone for local traffic. The posted detour is intended to direct regional traffic clear of the construction zone.

Additional notifications will be provided throughout the project as they become necessary. If you have any questions, contact the Mason City Engineering Department at (641) 421-3605.
