Paul Raymond Barnes, 76, of Mason City, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at MercyOne Medical Center – North Iowa.

Paul Raymond Barnes, 76, of Mason City, passed away on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at MercyOne Medical Center – North Iowa.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 11 a.m., at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 North Pennsylvania. Interment will be held in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Tuesday. Memorials may be directed to the family of Paul Barnes.

Paul Raymond Barnes was born on September 18, 1946, in Hampton, Iowa to parents Raymond and Ella Mae (Miller) Barnes. Paul graduated from Hampton Community High School in 1964 and went on to attend Upper Iowa University where he graduated with a degree in Biology. Paul enlisted into the United States Army. During that time, Paul received the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and Soldier of the Year. Paul was honorably discharged.

Paul was united in marriage to Darlene Aird on June 4, 1983, at First Covenant Church in Mason City.

In his free time, Paul loved to hunt, especially deer hunting. He cherished his time outdoors, whether it was hiking or just walking through the woods. Paul and Darlene enjoyed going to flea markets, garage sales, and gun shows. Paul was an amazing husband, brother, and friend and he will be deeply missed by those who knew him and loved him.

Paul is survived by his wife, Darlene Barnes; stepdaughter, Terri Carbonneau; brother, Nile Barnes; nephews, Matthew and Phillip Barnes; and niece, Tamara Barnes.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Ella Mae; and nephew, Jeremy Barnes.
