The daughter of Maurice and Eleanor (Schnoebelen) Manion, Rae Ann was born on October 15, 1949 in Bloomington, Illinois. In the summer of 1951 her family relocated to Jesup, IA where she grew up alongside her brother, Craig, and sisters, Mary Kay and Janine. She graduated from Don Bosco High School among the class of 1968. Following high school Rae Ann enrolled in Pitze’s Beauty School from 1969-1972.

In 1976 Rae Ann displayed one of the greatest gifts of love to her infant daughter through adoption; she was thankful to know Casey grew up with the love and support of her parents, Virgil and Becky Duvel.

While attending a Valentine’s Day dance at the Knights of Columbus in Waterloo, Rae Ann formally met Larry Sundt. The couple was married on August 21, 1981. Together they shared over 40 years of marriage and were blessed with three children, Adam, Emily, and Troy.

For nearly 20 years Rae Ann provided child care for countless families throughout northern Iowa. Her love for children was evident; even following her retirement the mention of one of the little ones she had cared for continued to bring a smile to her face.

Many will remember Rae Ann for her selflessness and her love for others. She had a servant’s heart and was always putting the needs of others before her own. She was charismatic and enjoyed good conversation with family and friends alike, oftentimes making new friends along the way.

In her free time she enjoyed sewing and has made countless baby blankets over the years, many of which are still well loved to this very day. She also enjoyed cross stitch, shopping, and collecting treasures from thrift stores and garage sales.

Those grateful in sharing in her life are her husband, Larry Sundt; children, Adam (Kari) Sundt and their children, Mia and Kain, of Rochester, MN, Emily Sundt of Ankeny, and Troy Sundt of Mason City; Casey (Aaron) Ament and their children, Colby and McKenzie, of Mesa, AZ; her siblings, Craig (Jo) Manion, Mary Kay (Brian) Parshall, Janine (Hugh) Strong, and their mutual friend and Rae Ann’s soul sister, Michele Neibauer; her mother in law, Carol Aldridge and Larry’s siblings; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.

Rae Ann is preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Eleanor Manion.

A special thanks to all of Rae Ann’s caregivers throughout her Hospice journey.
