Three dead in Fayette county crash

RURAL WEST UNION, IOWA – Three people died in an auto crash near West Union, Iowa Friday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, a two-vehicle auto crash occurred on Friday, May 28, 2021. At about 2:25 PM that day, a 2010 Chevy Impala driven by 65-year-old Terri Westfall of North Liberty was northbound on Highway 150, south of Nature Road, just north of West Liberty in Fayette county. At the same time, a 2021 Freightliner semi driven by 37-year-old Lamothe Guito of Orlando, Florida, was southbound on Highway 150 at this location. The Impala crossed the center line and struck the semi head-on. Three people died in the collision: Terri Westfall, 18-year-old Ashleigh Rensing of North Liberty and 9-year-old Alli Olson of Amana, Iowa.  Seth Olson, age 15 of Amana, Iowa, was hurt and taken to Gunderson Hospital.

The accident remains under investigation.

Assisting the Iowa State Patrol were: Fayette County Sheriff’s Dept., West Union Fire, New Hampton Funeral Home, Bill’s Towing of Decorah, and the Dept. of Transportation.
