Man pleads no contest to ‘whooping’ kids

ELYRIA, Ohio, Jan. 22 (UPI) — An Elyria, Ohio, man pleaded no contest to assault charges for beating two children with a belt at a birthday party at his home, court records indicate.

Antonio Jenkins, 27, at a Friday hearing in Elyria Municipal Court, was given a six-month suspended jail sentence and fined $500, $300 of which was suspended, The (Elyria) Chronicle-Telegram reported.

A woman had called police in October reporting her 4-year-old and 6-year-old children had returned from the party with stomach and back bruises.

Jenkins had told her the children had thrown rocks at his house and had been swearing, the newspaper said. Police said he confessed to “whooping” the children.
