Northern Iowa UTV crash kills teen passenger, child driver flown to hospital

POWESHIEK COUNTY – A teen is dead and another child seriously hurt after the young driver of a UTV lost control on a Northern Iowa road and put the vehicle in a ditch.

According to the  Iowa State Patrol, an accident took place on Friday, May 24, 2024.  At about 5:20 PM that day, an 11-year-old child was operating a 2016 Polaris Ranger Crew UTV on 230th Street onto 450th Avenue, southeast of Guernsey, Iowa.  While attempting to navigate a curve, the young driver lost control, and the vehicle rolled onto the driver’s side into a nearby ditch.

As a result of the crash, a 13-year-old passenger passenger was killed.  The 11-year-old driver was airlifted to University of Iowa Hospitals.

The Patrol did not name the persons involved in this accident.
