MASON CITY – A man and a woman with drugs were stopped by police Tuesday as they traveled through Cerro Gordo county on Interstate 35.
Leonardo Padilla-Bello, age 22, along with a passenger, Katherine Lynn Winkler, age 26, both of Rochester, Minnesota, were northbound on Interstate 35 near the 196 mile marker at about 2:25 AM on December 30th when they were stopped by the Iowa State Patrol. Cerro Gordo county deputies were soon called to assist in the stop.
During the traffic stop, police discovered drugs and drug paraphernalia and determined there was an intent to deliver. Padilla-Bello was arrested and charged with felony D possession of drugs with an intent to deliver, felony D failure to affix a tax stamp, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has placed a hold on him as well. He remains in the Cerro Gordo County Jail.
Winkler was charged with felony D possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and felony D failure to affix a tax stamp. She posted $5,000 cash bond on December 30th and was released.
