Convicted sex offender runs from Beje, loses foot race to officers

MASON CITY – A man serving time in the Beje Clark Residential Center was caught by police this week after an apparent getaway attempt.

According to police, on December 17th at about 9:37 AM, officers responded to a call from Beje Clark stating that Alexander Arthur Reynolds, age 19, had fled the facility. Police reported that Reynolds was apprehended by officers after a foot chase. He was taken to the Cerro Gordo County Jail.

Reynolds was charged with felony D escape of a felon and simple misdemeanor interference with official acts. Reynolds plead not guilty to the charge of interference with official acts and awaits a June 18, 2014 trial. A preliminary hearing on the felony escape charge was scheduled for December 27th. Reynolds remained in the jail Friday on no bond for the escape attempt.

Reynolds is convicted sex offender, whose victim was under the age of 13. He was convicted of 3rd degree sexual abuse on October 15th and was placed on the Iowa sex offender list. Also in 2013, Reynolds plead guilty to assault causing bodily injury and carrying weapons. Since 2012, he has faced 5 counts of unlawful consuming of alcohol.
