Handicapped, homeless Iowa woman shot to death in vacant home

DES MOINES - Police in Iowa's capitol city are searching for clues after a handicapped, homeless woman was found shot to death this weekend.

DES MOINES – Police in Iowa’s capitol city are searching for clues after a handicapped, homeless woman was found shot to death this weekend.

Police in Des Moines, say their detectives continue to follow leads as they investigate the city’s fourth homicide of 2024. They say 51-year-old Christy Watson was found shot to death Saturday morning in the 1400 block of 4th Street.

“Christy had been homeless and had sought shelter in the vacant home that she was discovered in,” police elaborated. “Christy was relatively new to the River Bend neighborhood, and used a wheelchair.”

Police detectives are asking that anyone who knew Christy, or who believes that they may have seen her, to call and make a report to aid in their investigation.
