  1. The last payphone in downtown Mason City was removed at the center gas station. Just a hole there now. See the city still doing nothing to help fill empty stores downtown. Local television news spends airtime on stupid stories Buddy Holly and McDonalds while only giving a few seconds to a missing teen girl. Not everyone has home internet where they can lookup this teens photo for reference. Where are there priorities at???

      1. Maybe’s priorities lie with chuck Heston. BTW…register your firearm at central command. Open carry is allowed without ccw permit where I’m at. Wink wink

    1. How about a bowling-rec center for Pennys site. A few local churches are interested in the old movie theater, but were told no. Remodel into government offices, classrooms, etc. like they did with the downtown mall in Mankato, MN. Whatever may take a grant like what several storefronts recently used. Main issue may be the new owners using the mall as a large tax write-off. WTF is with the stupid firearms reply to my last comment posting?

    2. The Globe is just trying to stay in business – and not doing very well at it, while KIMT is simply a running joke, mostly being played on the people who still watch their channel. We’d all be much better off without both.

      1. I am not sure what or why metro is talking about me but I stopped watching kimt because I was tired of hearing about everything minnesota.

          1. LVS I don’t want to disagree with you but there is NO way you can have the words liberal and smart in the same sentence.

  2. Multi-million dollar business will be built in Forest City. Just heard this today. What in the world is wrong with Mason City’s development team? Are they even trying?

    1. @JMO-They do not want new businesses to come to Mason City. If they came and paid higher wages the mayors buddy’s would have to pay more to keep help in their businesses.

        1. @NIT-It has been that way in this town as long as I can remember but seems to have gotten much worse in the last few years.

  3. Has anyone else noticed the yearly subscription increase of $100.00 to the globe. Does anyone know what percentage that adds up to. What a rip off.

    1. @ru kidding-I have not seen it in the quarterly charges yet. Although I have been expecting it to happen. I thought it would happen when they bought that used press that has made no difference I can see in the paper. There is nothing in the paper worth reading anymore other than the ad’s. If they raise my subscription I will drop them and take out the Des Moines paper.

    2. Increased by $100? Where did you read that? In NITwit? From the GG site RE: new subscribers. and current stays same as I read it. From the GG site ”

  4. Main Street runs east to west now not north and south Downtown will not come back to what it was. Major stores need more room then the run down building down town. We pump enough tax payers money into the to keep someone from buying an entire block and tearing it down to build something worth while. Government delays what needs to be done by the infustion of money. Step back and let business do business.

  5. Boehnke moved to table Ordinance #804 until the first regular meeting in May of 2013 to allow the City to do its due diligence regarding the adoption of a noise control ordinance, seconded by Unsworth. Nelson stated that he is comfortable with tabling the ordinance but would prefer a more condensed timeline to bring it back to the council. Mayor Crabb called the roll on the motion of tabling Ordinance #804.  Ayes:  Boehnke, Brant, Callanan, Unsworth.  Nays: Nelson.

  6. Watch the 60 Minutes show about the cops in Cleveland. I went the first four decades of my life with little interaction with police and public officials. Have had several bad experiences in the past few years. Now these folks act like drunken goons looking for a street fight. I tried to turn one young hot head trooper who laughed at me bore the pull over. Both local and state level trooper commander harassed at me when I tried to communicate to them. Now I get nervous seeing them.

    1. @me-there are certainly some that can be jerks and some that think they are cowboys. Most are hard working, dedicated police, at least in my experience. I think a lot of it has to do with their training and with them being on the defensive. It is a damn shame that the officers we pay to protect us now feel defensive.

  7. Wow, this site sure is dead without Philly! Let’s start a cheer to bring him back…bring him back…bring him back!!

    1. I think that he has a site somewhere, if you go there, you and him can criticize each other, and solve the worlds problems.

  8. I saw a report that says kelly services was the second highest employer in the country. That means we are a country of temps.

  9. Matt can you start a new website for us to name losers that are f**ken the county, state with welfare, foodstamp fraud and just pure lazy worthless f**ks. I bet we get a lot of the same names.

  10. People have given up trying to communicate with these elitist leaders and I have to include myself. After trying and trying, the efforts are futile. They do not listen to anyone but the top 1% of the people in Mason City. The middle class gets the shaft at every turn. Do u realize that the top 1% has seen their income increase by 30% in the last 2 years and the middle class .04. That should tell us something. I don’t want to be bitter but, it is frustrating no longer having a voice…

  11. Just another power play re: the Sanitation department. And, by the way, it was Hickey and Solberg who initiated the idea this time. Of course, they are just Bookie mouthpieces. It is just ironic that they talk jobs, jobs and at every turn eliminate them just because they can. The new ” Bring them Home” campaign by Bookie is a hoot. We have no decent paying jobs with benefits for that to happen. Businesses closing all over the place. New Economic Dev. guy and not one word out of him…

    1. You are so right, Marybeth. Just for fun (I’m retired) I checked a few websites to see what kind of jobs are available in Mason City. It was even worse than I thought. The pay is horrible, and you pretty much have to be willing to work the night shift or a swing shift. The situation is dire, and getting worse. Those who say our population is “stable” just aren’t looking at the facts. We’re losing quality people and gaining undesirable imports. It’s more than just numbers, Mr. Mayor.

        1. @NIT-You forgot they are hiring in Forest City, Lake Mills, Northwood, Esterville and even in Osage. Everywhere but Mason City. The mayor and his cronies are destroying Mason City.

      1. And what are the facts? One FACT is that there are NOT enough SKILLED workers that companies are looking for. The cryers are high school drop outs with no training in computer skills or other skills but yet they want $20/hr. LOL! Be real.. No skilled workers is a fact from WORKFORCE DEVELOPEMENT statistics and research. So tell us Einstein how come you’re not coming up with a plan or running for council or mayor?

        1. @mememe-hey stupid, I have put more people to work in my life than you can count. I have also trained more than you can count. They don’t want good paying jobs in Mason City and never have. They have managed to run every decent company out of town. That is why all the town around us have decent paying jobs and we don’t. Now, you could run for council and see if you could fix it but you are probably another one of the pinheads.

          1. Once, just once I would like to have you present your opinions or your opposing point of view without name calling. As soon as you resort to elementary school attacks you loose may of us.

          2. Anon-He can’t do that. Many people have asked him to, many have tried to reason with him, many have refused to converse with him. He is just an angry old man who has too much time on his hands and too little compassion for others.

          3. If one person here thinks you’re an ass, ignore them.
If five people here think you’re an ass, buy a saddle.
If the vast majority of North Iowa thinks you’re an ass, post comments everyday/all day on NIT.

          1. @Dr. Crane(Anonymous) you still write like a first grade child and I like my anger management just fine when I am dealing with a cowardly troll like you.

        2. Disagree. The only jobs that are available are medical field and driving a truck. Unless you want to be a car salesman for a bad chevy dealership. There are good people looking, just not trained in the medical fields.

    2. ..1. There are no jobs available accept $10 per hour.
      2. Manuf only at that.
      3. Talented people go where the jobs are.
      4. look at monster/indeed if you don’t believe me.
Mason City is drying up. Vacant building everywhere.Mortgage people leaving cause no homes are selling.

  12. The Urbandale Jayhawks left town last night and made room for the Cedar Falls Tigers. The Tigers invaded the friendly confines of the Mohawk gym and left with two victories.

The Tiger girls won 67 – 46 and the Cedar Falls boys won 81-53.

    Was Anita at the game(s)anyone?

  13. The sanitation department is self supporting, no tax money is used for it’s operation. So why does this drunken monkey think he needs to screw with the department. He must have another pet project that needs funding. This jerk off really needs to go, out of town on a rail… I have lived in this town all my life, and this dumb ass is literally the worst mayor this town has ever had.

    1. Lived here all your life? And what have you done for the town in that time? Yet you want to blame the last 30 years of Mason City’s downward spiral on Bookmeyer? Excuses.

      1. I’ve basically been a model citizen. Paid my property tax’s on time with the idea that I was helping city government run it’s business in a way that would (benefit) it’s citizens. I’ve maintained property to city code. Supported the police department whenever I could. Worked in this town for 47 years which in turn helped the economy of this town. Went to school here which helped the school system economically. I’m sure that there are other things that I have done to support the town…

        1. Continued from above….So hopefully you get the drift. What you don’t get is the point of my comment on how worthless the fat monkey is as mayor. I don’t blame the last thirty years on cheeta, just what he hasn’t done for this city since he’s pretended to be mayor. The word mayor is a Latin word meaning (bigger) and thats about the only thing he’s done, gotten that way off the tax payers of this city.

  14. Have the people of Mason City heard the news Mayor Bookmeyer is trying to act revenge on the sanitation department by eliminating two good jobs. The rate would still be on the low end State wide if raised a dollar a month. So much for the mayor and council wanting to bring good jobs to Mason City. Ask any citizen around Iowa what they would think of 11 or 12 dollars a month for garbage pickup and they would say they are getting a good service at a fair price but not this city or council.

    1. Everyone that works in the sanitation department, and every other position at city hall….all the city employees need to contact the State Ombudsman Office. I called there this summer regarding a police officer on our force. The representative I spoke with said she covers complaints for Mason City and Cerro Gordo County. There’s strength in numbers. Our city employees need to show Bookmeyer that they aren’t going to take his crap anymore.

    2. @whatev-here is an idea. Lets take the mayors and the council members salary away from them and make their positions volunteer. Then we won’t need to raise rates. Or, better yet, junk the Blue Zone cost and give that money to the employees.

      1. You can thank Max Weaver for the salary the council currently gets. He is the one who pushed for and got the raise one of the times he sat on the council. Now HE was a HUGE waste of taxpayers money. Two of his solutions were “sell FLW hotel on Ebay for $1 and bring a gentlman’s club to MC.” God he’s a hoot….so glad he’s gone.

        1. Max may have brought up the pay raise but one needs a majority of the council to approve it and they did. Bash him all you want but Max did represent those people whose voice often isn’t heard at city council meetings Unfortunately, we have no one who consistently does that now.

  15. The Urbandale Jayhawks came to town Friday night and split a boy/girl double header with the Mohawks. The MC girls won 50 – 44 in overtime. The boys went down to defeat 73 – 44.

Does anybody know if Anita, the embattled Superintendent, was at the games?

  16. WOW! The Globe actually printed a more in depth story looking into the mess at Southbridge. Still this gutless rag of a newspaper let an outside author write about what many others are thinking and talking about. Local media needs to find out why mall management and city officials have been rejecting and ignoring any redevelopment proposals for new business infusions into the mall.

  17. Shopping malls, in general, are dying. This isn’t simply a Mason City problem, it’s a nationwide problem. They’ve been crushed by the internet as well as other factors. Once Southbridge is done, how the property is developed going forward will be a crucial component to MC turning the corner and becoming a place people want to move to again. Keeping and reusing that structure would be difficult.

    1. @Left-this time I agree with you 100%. I have seen malls going under everywhere I go. They are like everything else becomes overtime, obsolete. The city has a opportunity to do the right thing by opening up the downtown area once again. It remains to be see if they will do that. It depends on what the special interest wants. The rest of us do not count.

    2. I understand that internet shopping has hurt malls. But as far as Mason City, I still think that something should be done by our city officials to get it filled again. There are many franchises that could be there if it was affordable. And with more stores, people would shop there. Not everyone in this town or North Iowa shops at Walmart. I hate Walmart clothes. I might go to Walmart once or twice a year. For household stuff I go to Target and groceries at HyVee or Fareway.

    3. Several things could be put to use in Southbridge. Perhaps as a government center, hospital use, NIACC and local school classrooms, a new bowling and rec center, etc. I am old enough to remember the run down structures that were there before the mall. Tearing down and rebuilding would be another huge burden to local taxpayers and to me make no sense. Again I say the may problems here are uncaring local officials and a Chicago based management corp. using our mall as a large tax write off.

  18. Southbridge Mall’s current problems are result of horrible new management and ding-heads at city hall. Management forced out Jitters Coffee by demanding that Jitters pay $20.000, for a new rooftop heat-cool unit. Some local churches asked about renting the old movie theaters there and where turned away. The people at city hall and the chamber have been told about all this with no result. The new mall management is a huge company based in Chicago and not local.

  19. Have been reading some comments on Facebook that I actually agree with!!1 Why couldn’t Marshall’s fill the space that Penney’s is vacating??? Since Kohl’s contract would not allow it….it would be a perfect spot and maybe a start to bigger and better things for downtown and the middle class….

    1. @MaryBeth-The thing that needs to be considered is the possibly Marshall’s doesn’t want to be there. traffic and some corporations have a occupancy policy that says the mall must be 75% occupied. There were store opening there before Penny’s went out and they didn’t show any interest in going there. Probably not enough foot traffic. Some corporations require 75% occupancy of a mall as policy. I think you will see Victoria’s Secret and Bath and Body pull out because of that. The mall is…

      1. @LVS

You may be right!! I have heard that Victoria’s Secret is closing, but there are all sorts of rumors right now. I have heard that the new mngmt. of the Mall is very hard to work with and really like to play hardball. I imagine that our Mayor has a plan. He had some ” brilliant” ideas in his state of the City address. Yeah right. Has a “Bring them Home” slogan for those who have moved away. We have no decent paying jobs/benefits..what is he thinking? He doesn’t have a job here…

        1. @MaryBeth-If Victoria’s Secret leaves you can bet money that Bath and Body will go to. They are the same corporation with the same policy. If they go the only draw will be Yonkers and I would bet they have something in their lease about occupancy levels. Most retail’s do. I too have heard the manager of the mall is difficult to deal with and plays games paying his bills. I would bet he has a different direction from his bosses. I think they are milking it for as long as they can.

    2. Mary Beth…Old Navy would be best because of the type of merchandise they sell, low in to a blue collar market.

  20. Made a visit to Southbridge Mall yesterday, and the mall seemed pretty busy for the holiday season being over. I don’t undetstand why the city can’t offer some incentives to other businesses and stores to come here and utilize the space there. Old Navy, Gordmans, Matshalls just to name a few. Maybe it’s time the current mall manager gets fired and get someone in there that knows what they’re doing. It all started going downhill when the current manager came on board.

    1. @Anonymous-The city doesn’t own the mall. They should with all the tax money we have invested in it, but they don’t. They can buy it if it is for sale or buy it after bankruptsy but that is all.

      1. Didn’t the city help Harley Davidson? Didn’t they get some incentives? I could be wrong, but I thought the city did something for them.

        1. @Anonymous-Yes, Harley got a sweetheart deal which was a givaway of our tax dollars by the mayor and his crony’s. Their excuse was they might move to Clear Lake which was pure bull. They had no intention of moving and don’t pay all that well anyway.

    2. I was at the mall briefly for the Denny McClain autograph show and I couldn’t believe how many people were in the mall. The parking lot was packed and this was about 3pm or so! From the lot, you would have thought that every slot in the mall was full. It nearly made me do naked jumping jacks!

  21. The Mason City boys lost another basketball game today. They were defeated 74 – 70 in overtime by West Fork. Well, at least it wasn’t a blow out.

    1. Did you watch the sophomore game? The sophomore boys beat WF by 43 points. And that was with every boy on the bench getting some playing time. I’m telling you, be patient. The tide is turning.

      1. I’m pulling for the Mohawks. I know there’s a good system in there somewhere, in fact with people I grew up with, trying hard to right the ship. The kids gotta want it, though. In my day, we succeeded despite the system by sheer hard work. The kids gotta want to win and put in the time and effort.

        1. I agree with you and I see that in the future of Mohawk basketball. Many years of hard work, long hours in the gym and hunger to win every time they hit the floor.

  22. anyone else thinks the ‘spin’ that tournquist and the council tried to make on Lionel Foster is almost comical. No where have I ever seen an employee terminated awarded $240,000 bucks unless SOMETHING, I mean something was prevalent. Also I guess this is why Scott T and Erik Bookmeyer don’t have real jobs or work in real companies, Mechanical Air showed Scottie boy the door and Bookmeyer will go down in history as just another elitist wannabe that is more or less a racists

    1. I agree the only reason the insurance company agreed to the pay out is because they new they had some major issues with their case and were looking at a very large loss. Would you want to take the chance of have Bookmeyer or Tornquisy testify under oath. Not sure if either one would know the truth if it bit them on the nose.

  23. Johnston beat Mason City 73 – 37 tonight. No wonder Jeffrey Horner et al are ashamed to be from Mason City.

      1. It’s just a shame that our school administration no longer supports sports in Mason City. It certainly won’t help in getting families with gifted athletes to move here. They’ll go Clear Lake or another smaller town around here where the citizens are still proud of their athletes. We all know how participating in athletics builds character. Teens tend to stay out of trouble if they’re involved in sports. What can we do about this?

  24. I think if someone would open the movie theater back up that would help the mall alot? I dont understand why they dont show movies their anymore

  25. And Sears will be next they just want to close a little over a 100 changed to 235 nationwide now you can bet MC will be on that list.

  26. Just heard of JCPenney closing in April. What a Mall we have! We tore our downtown for this.Jolas what a great idea the Mall was.

    1. Is it just me that notices that the mall is losing all of it’s stores since Glennys Schlomer (sorry about the incorrect spelling) retired as mall manager? It seems the new mall manager hasn’t done one good thing for the mall except move stores and businesses out. Even at Christmas time there weren’t the normal vendors set up that usually were there on the weekends. Sad.

      1. @Anonymous-I think he has different direction. He is manager for a holding company that bought the mall from bankruptsy for 8 million. The can shut it down and make money on the tax loss. Anything they make until then is just gravy. They have nothing in it compared to the value.

        1. Oh, I’m sure our council and mayor are somehow behind alot of the changes. They’re all dirty and it would not surprise me if there’s been some handshake deals behind closed doors along with the county supervisors involved too. They’re all pretty shady. And they will get what they want somehow or another.

  27. As predicted. I’m not looking forward to seeing that large empty money pit on a daily basis. What a shame, I remember as a young teen walking up federal past Casey’s Drug Store, Sam Raises, Harry’s Sweet Shop, Golden Rule etc. Early evening the street was lined with shoppers, and especially busy on Friday and Saturday. What a great time that was. It’s all gone now, except for the cobweb corners of my mind. What a Shame…

    1. @guest-I just saw that. It is to bad as I liked Penny’s. That should just about finish off the mall as Victoria’s Secret will be next, followed by Bath and Body.

      1. I’ve said for a very long time, that the mall needs to be turned into an outlet mall. There are so many people that go to Minnesota to shop at the Outlet Malls.

  28. Yep…….Philly couldn’t stay gone. Guess he wasn’t getting any attention in the last 24 hours. So, just more of his attention seeking behavior coming our way.

    1. @Anonymous-I knew Philly would be back. He couldn’t even make it 24 hours. You see he has no one else to talk to or debate with. He alienates everyone he meets and they stay away from him. That is why he is hiding in his mother’s basement. No one will talk to him. Anyone can find a link and attach it like he did. It only proves how desperate he is to communicate with anyone. If communication is what you can call his ramblings.

  29. Maybe, you seemed to have trouble believing that I’m in Las Vegas. I made this short video for you. No, I’m not returning to NIT…but with LVS confusing your mind like he did, you deserved to know the truth. I really wouldn’t have minded having coffee with you. 🙂 Take Care. Sorry LVS and the others ruined our conversations. Harrah’s Vegas Strip

      1. Website says “Must be 18 with ID to enter”, but I heard they’re also requiring anyone over 70 to show proof of health insurance, and to sign a waiver upon entering. 🙂 Anyway, I may not keep this video up for long, since I really don’t care if LVS knows reality or not. I did this for Maybe and his fragile mind. Peace everyone and never be afraid to speak out concerning the world you live in. Science is based in truth telling. Work to overturn judgment. Set humanity free.

      1. ?? huh ??

Well, Maybe, I’m sorry that I’m not understanding you…but you know now that the great Philosophus is in fact a truth teller, and shares his observations concerning the world, based on fact and relevant data. You were being deceived by your own mind, and all the others who had a pre-determined agenda against Philosophus. It’s never easy being at the top of the pack, but know that I’m employed, and living comfortably in my new residence in a nice neighborhood. Ciao

  30. Thanks to the sanitation department for going out in this weather and picking up the trash in this city, what would we do without you….

    1. Amen. They do a fantastic job. And I’m sure it’s not pleasant when it’s this cold outside. Thank you, thank you!!!

    1. Maybe they will send them out late. They could use it as a ploy to try and sell more online subscriptions. I don’t subscribe to the Glob. I do subscribe to the Des Moines Register, but only on the weekends.

  31. I heard that American Eagle was closing a bunch of stores and that the one in Southbridge will be one of them. Another one bites the dust…bets on how long the mall will be able to limp on after this?

  32. Ghost, thought you said you were leaving? I knew you wouldn’t. Your comment about the HRC should be called the Black and Latino oversight committee was unacceptable. In fact, many of your comments are unacceptable. You need to be gone. It’s one thing to have banter back and forth regarding issues, it’s another to do what you have done on this site to many. Called vulgar names, bigotry, etc. I hope that NIT blocks you once and for all from this site.

  33. I stuck around for a few comments to say goodbye to Buzz (my only real friend on NIT) whomever he is, and to finish the string about the Mitchell county tire dump. I’m not getting run off by anyone so don’t feel triumphant. If none of these slurs written against me are from Matt and NIT, then my parting apologies. It’s near impossible to know whom is who. As I’ve helped Matt with many of the design features here on NIT, he should figure out the duplicity and design in a protection

    1. Regarding the tires peter says he will get a reward. He said the deputy said that as of today the tires are still there. With the snow we had last night and the warnings to stay off the road, how was this guy or even peter supposed to get the tires out?

    2. You have stuck around for more than a few comments. You have stuck around for years after vowing your departure. You won’t leave. You CAN’T leave. You will wither and perish without the interaction of north iowa. Your new life is so awesome but you cling to your old one that you hated for some reason. You cursed your living conditions, the populous, and anything else you could think of. All whilst being free to leave. Now you are gone and you can’t let go. We look forward to your eventual…

      1. Since he is sticking around, and won’t leave. Maybe everyone needs to utilize the report comment button. Anything he says that is offensive to a single person or entity, readers just need to hit the report comment button. At least hopefully that way, his vulgar comments will get deleted.

        1. Especially when it comes to his personal attacks on Mary Beth Greenan, and Lionel Foster. Lionel helped many people in the years he was the HR Director. And I think that he does deserve respect for the work he has done. What our city council and mayor did to him was wrong. But to go after him with bigoted comments is down right evil. Same thing with Mary Beth. Every time she comments he just attacks her mercilessly. Enough is enough.

      2. I don’t think he left, he hasn’t said anything or shown anything to prove that he is gone. I asked for 2 things that would prove it and so far nothing.

    3. Hey Poopy….it is time for you to say good-bye to everyone. You drew the line in the litter box, now be a man of your meager word and pull the plug entirely on NIT. That means no logging in under other names, no ghosts goblins or panty poopers allowed either. Besides, by leaving NIT, you will have far more time to get things cleaned up so your 6th grade boss isn’t on your butt again. Enjoy your fecal impaction too, you’ve earned it.

      1. Buzz, that’s all I wanted was a good departing laugh. LOL. Philosophus Out. (End of transmission)

  34. You know for considering this site “reprehensible”, you sure post a lot. When you will you be joining the KKK to show your utter disgust for that organization? You are an attention seeking hypocrite. Good luck keeping your pants clean or at least not posting about it.

    1. @Not Anon-Old STINKY will be back. He has no one else that will talk to him so he comes on here. Negative attention is better than no attention for someone with his disability.

  35. Well it looks like my subscription to NIT has expired, so I think that’s going to have to be that. You’ll finally get the relief you’ve so eagerly wanted and thought you meritoriously deserve. Not all of you will be happy to see me go…but seriously, there’s not much more to my ministerial duties. I served my tour of duty, and duty’s UP! Ciao, and ariva derce.

    1. You will be back. I would bet on it. You see you have no one else to talk to, and even though it may be a negative it is all you have.

    2. Poopy….Many things come to mind when you say you’re leaving. One, this will be version 38 of the Philosophus & I’m leaving song. We all know how this will end, so stop the bullshit now and renew your subscription before your 6th grade boss climbs up your cankered ass again. Two, if you leave NIT, who else will you torment? You’ve already ran off most of the good customers at the Starbucks you loiter in. Go have another steam and cream at the sauna and things will look different.

      1. I don’t know Buzz. Something’s different. I’ve been regular for almost 5 days now without so much as a squirt. normally I’d be rushing off to the lavatory, but since I moved in to that new apartment closer to the strip,my pants have been clean.besides I think you all need a break.Unless you’d like to show me a magic trick with the timeline in which case I’d be so mezmorized I would pull my credit card out before I finished uploading. Of course they have Cirque de Soleil near also

        1. Ghost Pooper….Inserting comments between time lines is nothing magical, I’m surprised you haven’t figured it out already. Do you plan on paying your own way on NIT or just being a parasite? If you go the parasite route, that’s the same as living in your mommies basement isn’t it. What a shame, no true deuce dropping Buddha Pooper would be proud of what you are doing. Its been an adventure chatting with you, party on and be gone then Casper or Crapser.

          1. Buzz you almost had me seduced back in, but then I noticed that my entire account has been deleted…no notice, nor beckoning to re-suscribe. I think this is Matt’s way of saying it’s time for philosophus to find another septic system. Driving home from work tonite on Flamingo to the Strip was absolutely gorgeous. First time I’ve done so since being back in Vegas. Vegas is such an enchanting city at night. I saw Harrahs that Maybe was talking about on my right and Treasure Island

          2. I think it’s long overdue that you take a break from NIT. Your “attention seeking” behaviors have gotten old. I used to just tell people to just ignore you, but enough is enough. People that blog have their own sites, and promote them. You have just globbed on to this site for your own personal nonsense that no one even cares about. And, no need to respond. I don’t need a thousand word essay as to why you do what you do. Maybe this could be your new years resolution.

          3. That’s all fine and good, but you write as someone who administratively has an interest in this website. I’ve always said I would leave if the NIT editor formally asked me to. I’m leaving anyway, because the decision was made months ago…but it seems strange that someone writing under Anonymous would be “telling people to just ignore philosophus”. Why would an Anonymous care? No don’t bother answering, cuz I already know who this Anonymous is. Peaze

          4. I have no interests in NIT. I know Matt, not really as a friend. But as an acquaintance. I chat with him when I see him. I recently subscribed, I hadn’t subscribed earlier because of you, and the hogwash you constantly write about. But, I enjoy the site, and dislike the Glob. Your whole world is all about you. Everyone pay attention to me! No one cares about your loud pipes. No one cares about the Dr. You claim to work for. Don’t you get it?

          5. In fact, I find it odd that a physician would have you taking care of their children. There’s qualified nannies, and sitters to take care of children. There’s no way I would be comfortable leaving you with my kids. Who knows, maybe NIT wants you off their site, I don’t know. Maybe you’re bigoted comment about the HRC was the one that did you in. But I’m sure there’s plenty of readers that are tired of your behavior.

          6. Anonymous: Your petty character assessments of me don’t mean squat. You have no idea of how good a person I am. Stuff it. I like to let loose on this site with some humor because quite frankly I find what Marquardt is doing to be reprehensible. He’s basically trying to profit off of human misery, by showcasing all the worst aspects of humanity, while forsaking the good. He’s no different than any other exploitative news service. It disgusted me, and I wanted to countermand.

          7. Well then. If I was Matt, I would shut you down too. Maybe you should use this time away from NIT to get some help for your behaviors. Oh wait…..you haven’t left, even though you’ve said many times you were going to. Have a nice day there ghost of whatever. I’m done wasting my time on someone like you. Because that’s all you want, attention.

  36. A snowplow has been going in my area for the last four hours plowing nothing but tomorrow when we need him maybe go down our street once.Happens every time we get a snowstorm plow will go down my street in the mid late afternoon.I live on a pretty busy street and I’ts always the same.Don’t know if someone has pissed off the street department in my area or not but It’s always the same.Seems like they wait until everyone has cleaned up their sidewalks and driveways.

    1. @Anonymous-You have hit on one of my pet peeves. They will plow down the middle of the street once after a storm and then come back the next day after everyone has shoveled out their drives and crosswalks to do the edges. Then they plow everything back in. It isn’t to bad after a light storm but if it is heavy they plow you back in so you can’t get out. They went up and down the alleys just running up the overtime but can’t finish the streets.

      1. Snowplows go by my place every 15 minutes or so, when I blow out my drive it looks great, for a few minutes till the next plow comes along.

        1. I live on one of the busier roads in town and the plows go by my house a lot along with a grader so my drive is filled often. But it is well worth it to me. Because when I get onto the roads they are clean except for where people that were too lazy to get their cars out of the way have parked. When this happens my drive gets filled again because the plow needs to come back to clean the street.

    2. As a person who travels for a living I am happy with how clean the streets are in Mason City. The snowplow drivers are doing their jobs by moving that snow off the roads so it is safer to travel on for all of us. I will gladly put up with the aggravation of cleaning my drive.

      1. @rukiddin-Good. Then you can come and clean mine out. I pay to have mine done and it cost me extra to clean it out just because they can not schedule their work. They go up and down the alley four times and do the road four times when they could do it once and be done.

        1. Sorry but its not the snowplow drivers job to clean your driveway. Its their job to get it off the road so just wait and clean it after they are done.

          1. Your name says it all, some of us that live on a well traveled road have the snow plow come down every 15 minutes or so. I am not going to blow out my drive every 15 minutes.

          2. @ru-It is not their job to fill up my driveway with road snow either, but they do it. It cost me extra to get it cleaned out again, They don’t have to do it either no matter what you say. I have been told by other drivers all they have to do is change the angle of the plow and they will not dump in my driveway. My taxes go to help pay their salary and benefits and I have a right to demand good work for that money. And, that holds true for whatever state you live in.

        2. I think you are wrong. They can turn their blades but they can’t stop snow from going into a driveway. Go to Fort Dodge or Marshalltown and you will see we are getting a great benefit here in Mason City by having all our roads cleared. Many other cities will not plow alleys or side streets. And many other cities have off street parking and they don’t care if a car gets towed or a drive is full of snow.

        3. @LVS The taxes you pay go toward a service and you are getting more then your monies worth with clean streets. No matter what you say I am glad my tax money is being spent to make our streets safer by moving the snow off of them. I don’t believe any person has a right to demand special treatment.

          1. @ru kidding-Are you kidding? I lived in Canada for two years where they get a hell of a lot more snow than we do, and all they plowed was the streets where the busses ran. We got through and got along just fine. You live in the North Country. They could cut taxes a lot but reducing the snow removal. Or at the least, doing their job and not plowing a street four times just to get the overtime.

          2. @ru kidding-Are you kidding me? No one is asking for special treatment. I am just asking for efficient snow removal that takes into account the people that pay for it. You are the one asking for special treatment y demanding they clean the snow off every alley and street. As far as I am concerned they should enforce the no parking like other city’s around the area do.

      2. Point well taken. The priority is to clear the roads for emergency vehicles and public safety. Learn to live with a little inconvenence if you choose to live in Iowa. Its all about the greatest good for the greatest number.

        1. @Barney-Bull Crap. Who do you think you are talking to with that crap. It all about what is good for the elites.

  37. Okay, Matt, give us the lowdown. What’s with the medical marijuana ad on your site? This can’t be legal.

    1. @JMO-It could be a set up by the police. Only the oil is legal in Iowa and I just read this morning that it is still not very available. Be interesting to see how many get caught in a sting, if they ever make it public.

  38. I believe there is going to be another Foster payout, do to injurys that somehow were not treated at the jail!

    1. thank you for this information. I will contact the authorities in those counties to report to them what I know. Who knows, I may end up with the reward? Thank you.the only thing that makes me doubt it was him though is that his pickup truck is fairly small, and so therefore he would have to make multiple trips. But this can easily be checked up on and I will do so. I have a relationship with the Iowa DNR already and so I will call them as well.

      1. I just got off the phone with a Mitchell County deputy, and shared the information about the land sale and the signed agreement I had with the deranged man for proper disposal of those tires. They are going to investigate. I hope it is found to be him. I gave the deputy my information and if he is caught and prosecuted I will receive a check for $1000. Thanks again. I’m kind of getting nostalgic to return to Iowa and build another one because of this.

        1. LVS, why don’t you sit on papa’s knee and tell him exactly what’s bothering you with Philosophus? You seem to ruminate on things concerning him, and it’s starting to showcase your mental illness. Philosophus doesn’t live in his mother’s basement, yet even if he did, it should be no reason for you to harass him about it. People live where they choose, and it needn’t concern you. So come on now LVS, tell papa what’s wrong. And you know you don’t have the balls to do anything about it

        2. You know what it means when you start talking about yourself in the third person. Here comes that deep end again.

        3. @Philly-you have got to be kidding me. You prattle on, make up story’s and generally lie about everything. When I leave you alone for a couple of days you put some unsolicited, snide, smart ass comment about me in your post. And you want to know why no one wants you on here. You are a B.S.’er of the worst sort and think you are smarter than everyone else. You are not. What you are is a first class pain in the ass.

        4. you know I am in Las Vegas. Matt knows I am in Las Vegas. He knows that by my IP address. I lie about nothing. I’m sick of you calling me a liar. Something bothers you about me and you need to come forward and explain what that is. Its not tailpipes because you stated they bother you also in the past. What is it? Me pointing out double standards among the police and military? let it rip.

        5. @Philly-do you really believe that? How many times have you said you are leaving NIT and yet here you are. IP addresses do not tell your location and you know it. You make up story’s trying to impress people and all you do is confirm how opinionated and stupid you are. You put down our military after those people put themselves in danger so you could live in your mothers basement. You lie about everything. Those conservatives are laughing at you, not with you.

          1. Actually an IP address reveals the location of the ISP, which is typically in the geographical area of the person using the internet.

            1. @left, since you are the expert then let me ask you a question. If you are using a service provider, let say AOL. Would the IP address still show vegas area? If you are using your cell phone would the IP address show the vegas area? This is a legit question because inquiring minds want to know.

              1. I never claimed to be an expert. If you’re using AOL to get online, there are several “access points” to the internet provided by AOL. You will be accessing the internet via the closest one. That’s the address that will be displayed when using an IP address to determine geographical location. If using a cell phone not on wifi, I’m not sure but my guess would be that the ip address displayed would be towers / network closest to the phone.

                1. So what you are saying is that any way peter will access the internet will have an IP address for the vegas area?

        6. @Left-I am far from a expert on IP’s, but I know when I travel and take my lap top the IP stays the same as when I am at home. Now I use google chrome but that doesn’t show. I am guessing a phone might have a tower number but they would be changing constantly as you traveled and really wouldn’t do much good unless you were searching for someone. I have read that they have to ping the phone to find a location. Again, just saying. Don’t know for sure.

      2. Poopy Philly… I’m not certain, but I think you may have gotten the wrong idea from Polio Loco’s post. I figured he thought you were the one dumping tires.

When you speak of a “deranged man” are you talking about yourself or what?

        1. no buzz I got his meaning alright, but I ignored that and went straight to what he should be meaning. And I really did turn this information over to a deputy this morning, so if the deranged man dump these tires he will be prosecuted. And I will be sent a check for the reward. I am willing to share a bit with polio loco because he brought this to my attention.by the way you are still making me laugh. Keep up the good work. It is about 60 degrees today here in Vegas.

    2. An Update: The Mitchell County deputy I spoke with yesterday was courteous enough to give me a follow up call this morning, and NO LUCK. The Franklin County deputies drove by the land I sold to Deranged Man, and the tires are still there. Darn, I was hoping to get another $1000 off that psycho, and put him in jail. Well, his mental illness isn’t going away anytime soon, I’m sure there will be another skirmish between him, the Mexicans and their dog.

      1. It seems your mental illness isnt going away anyime soon either. And it seems you aren’t going away anytime soon either. Ugh.

  39. It was reported today that Sylvester Stallone will return for another “Rambo” film. What do you think? Will it be watchable?

    1. How is he going to make this fly? I watched The Expendables, not do much because of Stallone, but because of the cast. Left it at that. Didn’t bother with the sequel. What’s next? Is he going back in the ring and bringing Rocky back also? I won’t waste the two hours.

  40. Fosters case will cost more the $25000. I’m sure insurance premiums will go up. Make a claim on your insurance, rates go up. Second. If you think working with the state on job growth is good for Mason. Think again. They keep all the prospects in the Des moines area. We would be better off pairing up with Minnesota, at least they would throw us the business they feel are not good for the state. Lol.

  41. How is Mason City schools going to handle the cold weather this week? Wimp out and not have school for the cold as they have the past few years. The teachers have an service child development days coming up already coming up next Thursday afternoon Friday and Monday without school. Couldn’t they have used some of their two weeks off?

    1. @bad-you know they will either cancel school or shut down early. Back in the day there used to be a reason for it as their were lots of children living in the country. But, back then the schools were always open. That is not true anymore.

      1. I’m not arguing for your point of cancelling school because of a “few inches” of snow; however, the last few years, most “snow days” were caused due to the extreme cold. The school system is REQUIRED, in Mason City, to keep kids home if there is even a chance the apparent temperature (wind chill) is -40 or colder. That’s because frostbite can occur within minutes. Times may have changed, but the point is to keep kids safe. Cold weather (and snow) can kill, and a life isn’t worth it.

        1. @Atmospheric-Strange, I went to school here for a lot of years, my kids went to school here and my brothers and sisters went to school here. We all walked to school no matter what the weather and the school was never closed. We walked from the South End to the Old High School down town and never missed a day. And in all that time I do not remember one person dying from the cold or even getting frostbite. Back then if you lived in town you couldn’t ride the school buss. Raising a bunch of sissys

    2. Instead of spending millions on a storm shelter at the HS/JA building, they should have updated the heating system and installed an AC system. Cold winters and hot summers come every year, storms violent enough to need a storm shelter, not so often.

  42. When can a simple “Hi” cost your over $11,000? When you’re a locally-owned business – fourth generation, if we read their ads – and you won’t even say “Hi” to a potential customer. My family had been in the store before, scoped out the offerings, went home and measured, planned, dreamed. Decision made, I went back in to make the purchase and the store owner – the only one on-staff at 1:30 p.m. was too busy with another customer to even say “Hi.” Too bad – lost sale.

  43. Matt should do a very nice story on the “Tale of Two Cities”. A comparison between Clear Lake and Mason City. Under the Crabb/Flory era, CL has landed one of the most significant Fortune 100 companies to its City and had numerous other successes. MC has delivered the ill-conceived Blue Zone and now Foster pay out. What a marked difference two people can help make.

  44. Anyone who believes that the City’s insurance company somehow “made” the City settle the case is mistaken. The City must agree to the terms of the settlement. The agreement is not between the Plantiff and the insurance company, but rather the City of Mason City. The insurance company would never have settled a case for this amount unless there were some very challenging issues regarding the case. Settling a case for $60,000 is one thing; $240,000 is another.

  45. Glad to see Lionel Foster is getting even more money for doing nothing…

How did he get a job that pays so much more then anywhere in the country in the first place?

  46. Got a letter from the Globe telling me my online subscription is going up over 50%! I was paying $5.95 a month and now it’ll be $9.00. This is for the online replica of the daily paper. I should have known we’d all be paying for their new printing press. Paying more, but getting the same old stuff.

    1. @JMO-I don’t do the on line with the GLOB, but I do get the paper (mostly for the obits) I like to see if anyone I know died. Way to many anymore. Anyway, if the raise my subscription I am out of there. I ger really pissed everytime they call me and say my subscription is past due when it is not due for a week. It just shows how cash poor they are.

      1. well then don’t subscribe to the dang paper! duh. go read it free at the Library with the rest of the sponger losers.

    2. Their product is deteriorating right before our eyes. They have canned so many photographers and writers over the past few years. What’s left there? A skeleton crew with too many salespeople and too many mid-managers that are lost and clueless. The place is a huge joke. $2 million used printer? I think I am still catching my breath from laughing at that one and its been months since they announced that bone-headed move. I can’t believe the last few remaining talented people still hang on and work there. They should quit immediately before they get laid off and re-hired at 1/3 their former salary. I could see this coming back in 2006 when I marched in and quit my job there. My experience there was straight out of the movie Office Space. NIT will be there the day they close up for good. Cameras rolling, high-def style.

    1. @retread-thank you for the link. The damn thing takes forever to load. They need to go back to the old one. It worked just fine.

  47. A cool quarter million to that boat-anchor who once worked in local government. He used his so-call personal minority status to hold on to the same well paid government job for 40 years and one decade past normal retirement. My experience with him was negative probably because I was just another white-boy in his eyes. Others and myself saw him as an uppity elder black man as a pricy dud who was a grand example as to what is wrong with government in general!!!

    1. I went in there one time and explained to him the forced drugging issue, and he sat there composed, and acted like he registered the information I gave him, but I never heard a single follow up from him or about the situation again. A smooth operator, but it wasn’t his issue. I wasn’t black, and he really didn’t understand what I was telling him.

      1. Philly, I think you’re still living in the 80’s. There is no forced drugging, or restraining in long term care anymore. It’s actually quite difficult to get any type of anti anxiety or anti depressants for patients. Even pain medication is not prescribed unless absolutely necessary. There is a process of documentation of behaviors prior to patients receiving these types of medications. Many laws regarding chemical and physical restraints changed during the Reagan administration.

        1. I have been in long term care for many years and there have been many changes throughout the years regarding meds, restraints, and resident rights. And even if a patient is prescribed a medication they don’t want to take or the family doesn’t want them to take, they have the right to refuse, and then it’s not given. Nothing is forced upon any resident, meds, showers, anything. I’m sure you can find all the info on the Inspections and Appeals website.

          1. Looks good on paper, you should see how it really plays out in real life. It’s one of those things that isn’t even discussed anymore. Nausea? How about some Haldol? (that’ll put you right to sleep (so we don’t have to deal wwith ya on our shift ‘or til you die’). Try late 80’s middle 90’s. Nothing has ended. Chemical restraint is alive and well. Right to refuse? HA.

          2. @Anonymous-I recently went through a drug review for my mother who is in a local nursing home. I didn’t like several of the drugs I saw and contacted the home who put me in touch with a doctor. We reviewed her drugs and the doctor agreed with me and discontinued the drugs. I was very happy with what they did. I can’t say the same about Mercy where she spent one night in the hospital and the bill was 15K. They did a couple of test which were billed separately. Hell of a price for sleeping.

          3. Haldol? That drug is very rarely used anymore. And when it is used, it’s a PRN for only extreme cases. And on a case by case basis. I now you think you know everything about everything. But you honestly are not up to date with current laws and regulations in long term care facilities. And I am not going to waste my time arguing with you about something that you know nothing about, and you just speculate because of the way things were done 20 years ago.

    subject: Explain it

I asked 10 days ago about the Foster lawsuit settlement and now I’m asking again. Explain it. Where will the payout come from? Where will you get the money? Will our insurance drop us? Explain it. Stop ignoring a taxpaying citizen and explain it. Does the council have to vote on the settlement? Explain it. How will you address your obvious culture of bullying and retaliation? How many hostile work environment complaints have been filed since Eric Bookmeyer took office in 2010? The people demand answers.

    Matt Marquardt, NIT Publisher

    1. RESPONSE RECEIVED FROM JOHN LEE, 12-31-2014:

Matt, your first email didn’t ask for a response, it asked if there was anything we wanted to say to the media, I didn’t, due to the fact we were in a 7 day period of nondisclosure, so I’m not too sure why I would say anything. To address this email about a taxpayer, I will inform you that we just resigned with the insurance company, they are not going to drop up, and they didn’t raise our fees outside of the nominal yearly rate consistent with the past years. The insurance company paid the cost outside of our deductible and the insurance company made the call and we did not vote on it. I will not make any further comment on my personal opinion of this case. Happy New Year.

      1. @Matt-at least he gave you a answer. That is a hell of a lot better than the others. I have always thought he would make a good council member if he could just get away from our mayor.

  49. Wow! WE (as in taxpayers) just gave Lionel Foster a $250,000.00 check! Thanks, mayor. You screwed us over once again.

      1. Isn’t that nice of us. I guess that there will be no new equipment, (mowers) or repair parts, (tires) for the Park Dept. for several years.

      2. When thanking Bookie, make sure to thank those that put him back in office also. I didn’t vote for that jackass. But Thank you to the citizens of Mason City who did vote for this jerk!

      3. @JMO-I have been saying for years that our current mayor is a waste of skin. He is by far the worst mayor I can remember. He has cost this city thousands and will probably want to raise our taxes to cover this.

    1. Im sure its at least a 60-40 split betweeen Lionel and Roxanne. She is the most wealthy CR attorney in IA. In any case its a nice Christmas gift from the generous people of Mason City. (sarcasm)

    2. REMEMBER, the Globe DENIED everything just a few days ago. How can they look their readers in the face? Totally disgraceful. Anything to protect the “elite”.

      1. I don’t understand how Bookies wife isn’t completely embarrassed by his actions. If I was her I would have kicked him to the curb a long time ago. I’m sure his behavior has had some negativity for her at work. And with his drinking problem, and having the kids in the car when he’s been drinking. How can she tolerate all of this? Poor woman. She certainly doesn’t need him or his reputation.

  50. Anybody else having problems with Mediacom e-mail service? Internet seems to be okay but e-mail is either slow or unavailable. Been this way for a few days.

    1. mediacom sucks. Pay for high speed internet. They never come close to matching the advertised speed. The cable tv sucks. Infomercials all night long and choppy reception. I cannot WAIT until a better deal comes along.. Their days are numbered

      1. I got rid of Media-Con years ago for the very same reasons you mentioned. Plus the fact they seemed to need a rate increase about every other month.

        1. I got rid of mediacom for direct tv and centurylink. Sure if the weather is bad I might lose the sat signal but it’s still better than mediacom and as for the internet I can could on 1 hand the amount of times the last year that I lost internet and even when I did it wasn’t for very long.

      2. Several years ago the city formed a cable tv committee, that was supposed to check into other cable providers so Mediacom didn’t have a monopoly. The committe must be getting free service from Mediacom, since you never hear anything from them. I’m thinking about dropping Mediacom, but which one is the best.

        1. @Katie-Thank you for the information. I currently have Century Link. But, if they hit me with one more increase without improving their service I will be leaving them.

    2. Lesson learned years ago.. never use an Internet Service Provider’s email. Go with Gmail, Hotmail or Yahoo or some email program that you can use anywhere and is not dependent on the ISP. Mediacom is switching mail servers, thus the issues with their email.

    1. What writer writes to satisfy another? Writing is done to satisfy yourself. It’s pedestrian to think otherwise. I’ve seen marginal writing at best here on NIT, with most being Jurassic Park era expository skills. Me want bone. Me want to bone girl. Me hate Obama.

      1. Every once in a great while you do make sense but the majority of the time all it is is ramblings that make no sense whatsoever.

      2. “Me want bone. Me want to bone girl. Me hate Obama.”

        1) For your back?
        2) Sure you do. Hang out in the sauna move.
        3) Hate no one, but distrust is healthy.

        1. It took me a few moments because of your typo, but I chuckled at your wit when I finally put it together. Sorry about hitting report comment…we’re all still waiting on Matt to space reply/report comment farther apart. Buzz you’ve earned a few more IQ points for this one. Consider yourself at 95.

          1. Dammit…my fumble fingers on this Android inadvertently logged out. This is perhaps the only comment I’ve made without my Philosophus login. And I was trying to go for a perfect login record! Oh well. While I’m complaining, I need to ask you (or Matt) if you guys can do anything about the double page loading that slows things down? It’s annoying when you think you’re ready to comment, and the damn page loads one more time.

      3. YOU write to satisfy yourself. You plensure yourself in doing so. It is the only reason you write. Real writers create. You merely regurgitate idle thoughts of an existence you cannot seem to achieve. You are as much a writer as some child who makes a list for santa.

  51. To hell with the New York City cops turning their backs on the Mayor. I hate gang banger mentality. If the Cops believed in and practiced individualism we’d all be better off. The ‘us vs. them’ mentality has to end. Respect starts by honoring the individuals in our society…and the lawmakers and cops both are guilty as charged. They term people “civilians” as if they are somehow elite over us. Get off your damn high horse steed and become a human again.

  52. Just curious ——Cerro Gordo jail report —-
what’s up? new site? blocked from visiting?
    secret code needed to see?

        1. I’m going to the Magic Forest tonite with the Family to watch the kids ice skate. Do you want me to cut over to Treasure Island and say hello to Haley? Let me know if she’s working tonite, or I could call again.

  53. It’s statements like these which beckon cross examination: “R** was a great officer…Good man with values,”

Values? Whose values? What sort of values? R-values for insulation? These type of generic lauds seem to fit in nicely with the self-image authoritarians like to sedate themselves with, but if you really asked them to present a thesis on what their values were, (which btw we should require of all police officers) they probably wouldn’t have a clue where to begin

    1. And I think this is a great time to disassemble the brainwashed conditioning we have placed on police officers. We ask them not to think for themselves, but to merely implement the “laws of the State of Iowa (not all laws I should mention) and those of the Federal Government and Constitution”…we ask this in a brainless expectation they will mindlessly arrest people, or shoot and kill them at the sole discretion of policy makers, or commanding officers.

      1. As we discussed further outside the sauna, the recent graduate of Oregon State who heads a team at Elon Musk’s Solar City said “The problem with America is that it’s comprised of so many people with IQ’s of 80 or 90 and these people are voting.” He said these people don’t possess the capability to rationally think logically concerning energy production, and war-making for oil. He’s completely right, and it was refreshing to meet someone with his kind of outspoken intelligence.

        1. While you and the boys were in the sauna, were there any jumping-jacks or games of soap hiding taking place?

          1. @Buzz-Just some more of Philly’s wet dreams. He is so full of it it is coming out of his ears. No one in their right mind would let someone like him near their kids. He is sitting in Momma’s basement making this crap up as he goes.

          2. @LVS…I’ll bet when Philly shows up, he clears out the sauna quicker than a fart in there would.

You know he’s that guys who’s towel always just happens to fall open.

        2. “The problem with America is that it’s comprised of so many people with IQ’s of 80 or 90 and these people are voting.”

As much as I hate to admit it, you might be on to something. Plus that would also explain how Obama get elected….twice. Also it would explain how you are able to draw public assistance money while having never contributed anything into the system that supports you. Thanks for the info!

          1. Buzz I’m an employee of a doctor, and before that I was an employee of my mother…with some attempts at starting a business along the way, which coincidentally were SCREWED UP by North Iowa morons who had limited vision. My guitar making business was sabotaged by druggies, and loud motorcycles, which absolutely drove me nuts while I was trying to work. I didn’t want to go a moment further in that community because the noise was intolerable…and the police didn’t do anything.

          2. Philly…I know, I know. None of your problems are your fault, it’s because of other people or other things that you turned out the way you did. Keep telling that story and maybe some day, you’ll even believe it yourself. As far as the doctor you “work” for, does he allow the children to sit on your lap or do you just cuddle them when you are comforting them?

          3. Buzz, I’ve only reported comments maybe one other time, but your comment is obscene, and I’m afraid your wit has expired. Sorry pal, but I’m gonna have to put you on ignore for that one.

          4. Philly….”Report, Report, Report…all you people do is run from the truth, and try and silence people you don’t agree with.”

I knew you would rise to take the bait. 🙂

And, please, never threaten me again with a black eye or any sort of injury. When you talk like that it shows you speak from your ass and it shows how ignorant you truly are. Simmer down now tough guy.

          5. “Actually, I don’t have a damn tear in my body, but I was trying to be nice.”

I insinuated nothing. You interpreted something. Big difference Messiah.

  54. God gave us Jesus Christ on this day over 2000 years ago and we are all (most anyway) still celebrating his birthday by giving gifts, wishing each other Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays, and Celebrating the gift of Forgiveness.

How amazing is that. Evil just can’t destroy love. The devil just don’t have the power.

    Merry Christmas to all.

  55. I spent Christmas Eve with an awesome, very funny and down to earth artist who is my roommates boyfriend. What makes this guy so special is that he builds guitars and paints wicked graphics for very famous people. He airbrushed Elvira’s Thunderbird, and built guitars for Vince Neil, Ozzy Osbourne, and painted Tommy Lees drums. He used to hang out with Tommy and Pam. We are having Christmas Dinner tomorrow. He said he really liked me, and thought I was hilarious. Vegas is cool.

      1. @Maybe-They are going to become bestest buddy’s and share everything. It will last about two days until the guy figures out what a flake he has found.

      2. He just built and airbrushed a guitar for the band Sublime. So get this, I’m going to ask him today if I can bring my Geo into his shop so we can custom paint it. He’s already hinting that he wants to work with me. He doesn’t build necks, so he wants to learn how to fret and neck shape. He lives above recording studio where Vince Neil just recorded. He mentioned something about working with Sharon Osbourne on something also. He’s an inside secret among celebrities cuz he’s good.

      3. The doctor I work for’s girlfriend drove in from LA last night to have dinner with us. She’s worth 25 million dollars because she invented and distributed a blood testing machine. Very plain and humble looking. You wouldn’t have a clue she was so rich. She’s known to be stuffy, but listening to me and the artist talking and laughing got her smiling and loosened up a bit. I told the story of crapping my drawers and walking to the river. It was a big hit.

        1. Messiah…Yep, everyone knows there is nothing funnier than a story of a (supposedly) grown person who brags about shitting himself. Nothing speaks of intelligence and common sense more than that does. How long before you launch into a nut-spin manic rant of yours in front of them? Today is Christmas, won’t you please stop your mooching off of others for one day and give thanks to God, Jesus and our military. I wish for you the best.

          1. @Buzz-Old Philly is having one of his wet dreams again. It would take about a five minute conversation to figure out he doesn’t have both oars in the water. They were not laughing with him, they were laughing at him. If it ever really happened at all which I doubt.

          2. Buzz, what you never seem to comprehend is that without the checks and balances put in place, your beloved Military would end up like any other military dictatorship: abusive and controlling. The checks and balances are a fundamental part of America, so get used to it. I give thanks for the Checks and Balances aspect of our culture, and you prefer to focus on the power and force aspect of it. Both are necessary. You’re only torturing yourself to not understand this yin/yang.

          3. I understand a yin/yang or quid pro quo concept, but what I don’t comprehend is why you pretend to be such an authority on areas in which you have zero experience. You don’t know what the military is about, because you were never a part of it. Thankfully, red flags went up before you slipped through the cracks and were allowed to enlist. That’s your beef about the military, you weren’t good enough to become a part of it. Just like society, you’re mad because you don’t fit in.

          4. He wouldn’t have lasted a week in training before offering his input on how to improve their clearly broken process. He would have gotten sent home with a shaved head and the same (if not worse) attitude.

          5. In America there always has to be a tier system…a “rock star” so to speak. An inclusive military would appear to0 “socialist” to elitists, so like the police, they need to find a way to discriminate. Discrimination seems to be the running theme of America. After they’ve rejected a bunch of people, the police and military can gather up the “guns and roses” and adoration of the public’s attention, distancing themselves from the “civilians” and protect their internal agenda.

          6. Like I said before, your poor mother could have done the world a favor and pinched your head off at birth. Now, go to Starbucks and sponge off someone fir the rest of the day.

          7. You’re not fooling anyone. If society MADE you go, you would hate it. Just like your public education. We have an all volunteer military. It has standards. You don’t meet them. Deal with it and move on. You bitch and moan about the world being unfair just like the common teenager. Grow up or stick a sock in it.

          8. The idea of inclusiveness scares the hell out of you. You just cannot accept a system that includes all. You NEED someone to put your boot on. Hypocrisy, double standards, and faulty logic are other issues you conveniently still ignore. You just want things the way they are…and you don’t want to have to think about anything else. It worked for you because you were comfortably conformed within status quo…you drank beer, you beat up queers, and you cracked negro jokes.

          9. The intelligent people out there who have been following my analysis understand I’ve already won this argument. The military brass at the Pentagon, and the political civilian leadership understand this as well. It’s why slowly but surely the military is changing in their policies. We’re winning, but the old ways and old mindsets still persist in some of the hardened vets of the past. After another 2 blue Presidents, the military will begin to reflect how I envision it: open to all.

          10. “you drank beer, you beat up queers, and you cracked negro jokes.” WTF??? Where does stuff like that come from??? Only from a person who isn’t right in the head, that’s where.

On top of everything else, we now have to add psychopath psychic to your long list of skills and abilities. Wow, there is no end to your ignorance.

            I’ll pray for you.

          11. Buzz, one of the things short term memory public likes to benefit from is to conveniently ignore all the injustices and bigotry of the past, and pretend like it never existed. I don’t forget these things, and so I remind the bigots of who they were, and what they did. I’m not as forgiving as the Shopping-Centric Public who only wants to “feel good”, and doesn’t care about right or wrong, or true justice. Of course that’s going to piss you off. You don’t want to be reminded.

          12. How would anyone know if I paid to have my comments deleted unless Matt divulged that himself? I wanted my comments removed because I wanted my entire presence removed from NIT because of the voracious, incessant attacks to my person, and my views. It was the likes of LVS and others who chronically bullied and harassed me on NIT. I used to write articles for NIT and submit things, but it has defaulted to a rotten egg throwing venue. I may be contacting Matt about removal again.

          13. And limiting replies to only 487 characters depletes the conversation and only offers snippets of one’s views and intended meanings. The overall conversation concerning race in America requires a lengthy discussion that must be traced back to slavery and human rights abuses. I’m willing to condemn actions found within slave descendants when white descendants own up to the real history of the past when they look to reform the future. Myopic amnesia doesn’t work.

          14. “And limiting replies to only 487 characters depletes the conversation”

And I wonder why that would be Messiah. I’ll tell you why….its because you can say hi in 5 minutes that’s why. Let alone when you publish your encyclopedic screeds and rants. Now that you are on the verge of dethroning Wayne Newton as the king of Vegas (with your new, neato, groovy cool invention) why don’t you start your own web-site….again.

          15. @Buzz-well the honeymoon must be over already. They have cut the strings with the lunatic and he has no one who will talk to him. That is why he is spending all his time on here making his deranged comments. It sure didn’t take long.

          16. @LVS…As you’ve said before, I too would be very surprised if he ever left Clear Lake. He is a pathological liar (in my personal opinion) and you can’t believe a word he says. I was embarrassed to read what he posted on the passing of Chief Rex McChesney. Even though he has a right to say what he did, he should have used some common sense. I just hope that he will leave the family alone during their time of mourning.

          17. @Buzz-we might as well face it, Philly is pretty much brain dead. What he post is nothing but blather that he makes up as he goes along. he is like a Parrot, just blathers without making any sense.

          18. Buzz all I can say to that is by asking you whether the families of people sick and dying were left alone while the outside streets raged with abuse and volume? Did the police have compassion on all those people whom didn’t want their summers dominated by illegal, obnoxious exhaust? The answer to that is clear. I remember speaking with a woman whose husband was sick and dying and she implored me to do something about the noise…as did residents of retirement homes.

          19. Did the police have compassion on the person trying to get home from the bar whom blew a .08 and begged to be able to take a cab home? Did the police have compassion on the people they arrested and sent away for possessing a garden plant? Those they stripped away from children to set up for prison terms? Confiscations of homes, land, cars, personal possessions, cash? NO. They did not. Let the police of the modern era reflect and adjust so they serve the people, and humble themselves

          20. Granted Philly gets annoying, but he’s enjoying his time in Vegas. He’s meeting some interesting people. At some time in our life we all deserve to be happy and have some fun. If his stories bother you, just don’t respond.

            1. Probably the most sound advice anyone has given here. Philo hasn’t broken any rules here on NIT outside of annoying some of you. So there’s no point in reading his posts unless you want to engage him in debate, which he appears to thrive on. Remember, when you refer to him as “crazy”, ask yourself why you even bother to read his comments. Simply skip by or make your own comment or start a new comment thread. We don’t all have to agree, but we do need to get along here to some degree and keep things civil. Thanks.

        2. Hey Philly, so you crapped your pants, happened to me once too. I was extremely pregnant at the time, which I’m sure that wasn’t your scenario….lol. I care for elderly folks that have also had this happen to them, and they get so embarrassed. I just tell them….”ya know what, it’s no big deal, shit happens”.

          1. Yeah, that’s the point I’m trying to make…that basically our bodies are afflicted with these absurd conditions: we eat clumps of stuff, and shit them out our back ends, and piss out liquids endlessly. Rather than being held hostage to the process, I wanted psychological relief & mastery. Now if I have the urge to go, I’m not so freaked out, because I know what a full plunder is like and the cleanup time involved. Inconvenient, but not the end of the world.

          2. Sounds like when this nanny gig is over, you could always do stand up comedy. You seem to be “full of material”.

            1. That’s actually not a bad idea. Philo, would you be interested in trying some stand up on video and posting it so our readers can watch? No word limit…

          3. Remember, feces can be used as a weapon also; not so much in the prison sense of the word:smearing it on walls, or throwing it at prison guards…but in terms of an older person, neglected and abused, creaming his corn & with a twinkle in his eye watching the nursing home workers clean it up. Sure they risk an increase to their Haldol or left to lie in their stew, but when you’re stuck in a nursing home with a one way ticket to oblivion, the simplest revenges can be had.

    1. “He said he really liked me, and thought I was hilarious.”

Congratulations, please let me know when and where your wedding will be and I will send flowers.

  56. IN CASE YOU DIDN’T NOTICE. HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED ON JANUARY 1st. 2014

Top Medicare tax went from 1.45% to 2.35%

Top Income tax bracket went from 35% to 39.6%

Top Income payroll tax went from 37.4% to 52.2%

Capital Gains tax went from 15% to 28%

Dividends tax went from 15% to 39.6%

Estate tax went from 0% to 55%

Remember this fact: These taxes were all passed only with democrat votes, no republicans voted for these taxes.

All taxes passed under the Affordable Care Act,…

    1. @Record-You forgot that Medicare went up and supplemental and RX insurance all went up about 10% as well. That doesn’t even count Obamacare if you can find a carrier.

    1. Since I’m included in EVERYONE, Merry X-mas to U2. I mean seriously, Happy Holidays to Bono, The Edge, Larry Mullen Jr., and Adam Clayton. 🙂

p.s. LVS, I’m sitting here in Starbucks, so if you want to meet for a bowel movement, you have about 20 minutes to find me.

      1. @Philly-If you ever had a full bowel movement there wouldn’t be anything left of you when it was done. You are hiding in your mother’s basement where you have always been. Why don’t you start the new Year off right and do something different like telling the truth.

  57. hahahahaha hohohohoho hehehehehe your real funny, Matt is pretty smart and knows a lot about different websites. Have a merry x-mas Anasmous

    1. I can’t get to the home shopping networks website, can you help me with that? Oh wait, Matt doesn’t run that site either. Nevermind.

  58. Philosophus Enterprises is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for potential investors. Furthering the spectacular successes of product lines such as our patented tire house, the Kingdom of Solaria and of innovative faming practises Agricultural Self Sufficient Biotechnology Avoidance Guidelines (ASSBAG); the marketing team at Philosophus Enterprises feel the time is right to diversify. Introducing the Philosophus Phone! A Smartphone designed specifically to meet the needs of the Amish!

  59. Bundle up when you leave the house tomorrow. Mason City just defeated Clear Lake in varsity boys basketball, 73 – 67! Repeat; the Mason City boys basketball team beat the Clear Lake boys 73 – 67 tonight.

    Wow!

  60. The real power in the US Congress lies in party leaderships and committee chairmanships. Incoming GOP control of House and Senate has put 45 white males in place of just 46 of these positions. The GOP allowed one white woman Senator to chair one of the 46 positions. So much for the Republican desire to reach out to minorities and women? Go Koch bros!

    1. If a man has experience with a subject and a woman doesn’t guess who gets the job and it has nothing to do with the sex of the person.

    2. @me-so you would like them to put people in based on Gender instead of qualifications? That is why the liberals are so bad about governing.

  61. Geez Louise, I thought I heard that Philosophus was leaving NIT…. it must have been a dream!! Now back to the nightmare…and so it goes. Same sh_T, different day!

    1. And I thought you and your team were leaving the Court House, but no such luck. I’m the one brain you’ll never pick, and you’ll never triumph over. I’m the one who slipped through the cracks that you couldn’t exterminate with your weed killer, like you managed to do with so many others. Now my seed has spread in minds all throughout. So you better freshen up your daisies, because your flowers are getting old.
