Cyclone women fall to Texas, 71-64, in Big 12 Battle

AUSTIN, Texas – The Iowa State women’s basketball team (16-7, 5-7 Big 12) led Big 12 rival Texas (16-7, 7-4 Big 12) for almost the entire game, but a 6-minute scoring drought allowed the Longhorns to make a late surge to take the 71-64 victory.

The Cyclones came out firing and jumped out to an early 22-12 lead on 10 quick points from freshman Jadda Buckley. Buckley and point guard Nikki Moody each scored in double digits to lead the squad in the first half. It was more of the same for much of the second period, as the Cyclones led by as many as eight points with just under 6 minutes to play.

A three pointer from Texas’ Brady Sanders gave the Longhorns their first lead of the game with 2 minutes and 45 seconds left in the game. The Longhorns didn’t look back and continued to build a lead as Iowa State went without a field goal for over 6 and a half minutes.

Jadda Buckley had 14 points in today’s contest, marking the 13th time this season that the freshman has scored in double figures.
