Quick turnaround for Cyclone men as they travel to West Virginia Monday

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesAMES – Fresh off of a walloping dished out to TCU, the Iowa State men’s basketball team heads east to face the West Virginia Mountaineers Monday night.

Iowa State (18-4, 6-4) will face West Virginia (14-10, 6-5) in Morgantown in a key Big 12 contest. The Cyclones and Mountaineers had never met prior to West Virginia joining the Big 12 last season. ISU won both meetings a year ago to hold a 2-0 edge in the all-time series.

Pittsburgh native DeAndre Kane is expected to have more than 50 friends and family in attendance at tonight’s game. In three career meetings with West Virginia when he played at Marshall, Kane averaged 16.7 points.

West Virginia head coach Bob Huggins is 4-3 all-time against Iowa State: 2-1 at Cincinnati; 2-0 at Kansas State; 0-2 at West Virginia.

Iowa State is one of just two schools nationally with three players averaging at least 16 points per contest. The Cyclones have had five different players tally 20+ points in a game this season. ISU is the only school in the nation to score 70+ points in every game.

Melvin Ejim had one of the best performances in ISU and Big 12 history Saturday against TCU. Ejim scored a Big 12 record 48 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds. He shot 20-of-24 from the field, including 2-of-2 behind the arc, and was 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.

Head coach Fred Hoiberg won his 80th game as head coach of the Cyclones, just one behind Tim Floyd (81) and four behind Larry Eustachy (84) in their first four years leading the program.

The game will be televised by ESPNU.
