MASON CITY – A known cat killer caught at least three times for drunk driving plead guilty to first offense operating while intoxicated – and has been bragging about it ever since.
Christopher Menting, age 24 of Mason City, has plead guilty three times to drunk driving: In 2010 in Franklin county (plead guilty to 1st offense OWI) and in 2011 (plead guilty to 2nd offense OWI). Menting was pulled over by Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s deputies on March 31, 2013 near Penn Avenue and 3rd Street NE in Mason City. According to a report, Menting was driving under suspension, had improper plates, loud mufflers and an open container of booze. He was then charged with 3rd offense OWI.
He faced up to 5 years in prison, a fine of $3,125 and loss of driver’s license for 6 years, and other penalties.
In what would seem to be an open and shut case, was not so. Using what he called “some kinda devil magic lawyer stuff” Menting’s attorney Colin C. Murphy was able to negotiate a plea deal of 1st offense operating while intoxicated for Menting’s crime.
Menting, who last year professed to shooting cats, was granted a $100 per month payment plan by Judge Karen Salic on the $2,021.25 he owes Iowa courts. He must serve 21 days in jail, but can leave for work apparently whenever he wants.
“It ain’t so bad I get to come to work everyday so I preaty much just gota sleep there,” Menting bragged via social media this week following his plea deal. He also said the “food sucks ass” at the jail so he eats while he is free before going to the jail to fall asleep.

Loud pipes must mean he was riding a Harley. He should lose his license for a long, long time over this. He will probably move up to pot by the time he gets out of jail.
Give it time he will get what he deserves you always get back what you put out. Getting 3 OWI at such a young age says a lot about his future. FYI BUDDY while your at work surfing the web just remember…NO ONE wants a drunk, no one wants their loved ones killed by a drunk driver, and no one will have respect for a BOY who uses innocent animals as target practice. He’s commenting on his mugshot on NIM. Laughing about being on work release and using fb. Not at all ashamed of 3 OWI convictions. I wonder if using fb when one is supposed to be at work during work release is a violation of something.
