10 days of delivering the newspaper in Clear Lake, and I have disturbing flashbacks. To this day, I cannot bend over and pick up a paper to bring it into the house.
10 WHOLE DAYS! I have had colds that lasted longer (and worked harder)! You should go job shadow someone with a hard job sometime. It might wake you up to the fact that no one in this world OWES YOU ANYTHING.
(yawn) You can work as hard as you like, but what you can’t do is make someone else work as hard as you like. Hard work is good at times, but working smart is better. Working free from a master is better yet.

the point being, if 10 days of delivering papers is enough to give you debilitating PTSD, you are in for nothing but hard times. As far as advice on being “master free”, let us know when you finally get there.
The first step is identifying who the “hardass slave drivers” are, then quarantining them. Social shunning works to a degree. I liken it to an FBI’s most wanted list. Their names and mugshots need to be put on a website with a description of their exploitative crimes. There are people who make money that are good to the people under them, and then there are those who make life suck. These are the ones I want eliminated from our society.

Turned out he was too hung over to carpe diem, so I wasted some time downtown (where I saw these weird bloodstains on the road by Lee Jewelers and the Library on Penn ave.) Sad story if it is true. Turning people loose with powerful psychotropic substances like marijuana, psilocybn, LSD etc is NOT advisable without training and a controlled environment. Some have had over $500 damage to their vehicle’s paint job, yet the management at Mills says it’s not their problem…
How many folks need damaged vehicles before a class-action law-suit can be made?

@Trucker Dave-Brush types are historically bad for your car. They pick up rocks and dirt in the brushes and the scrape your finish. I would never run one of my vehicles through that type of car wash.

This padt weeend the KIMT family fair was at the fairgrounds instead of the mall. I went to the bookstore last week and was shocked at how empty it is. Now there’s no more cookies either. Is not having events at the mall and empty storefronts all part of our council’s plan? They’ve been wanting their convention/events center. It’s not delusional, it’s just coincidental. It took me aback, because I was writing about Jews controlling our media and country, and then a shooting occurred at a Jewish Center that left 3 dead. I don’t really think I’m a prophet, but I do believe in pre-cognition and dreams of forewarning, because I’ve had them. I get colorful from time to time to keep it lively. If people want to see me as a Prophet, I could entertain that role for awhile, if it means good things will come from it

The shooting occurred because the shooter watched Saturday Night Live last night and became jealous and envious of the talented Jews who were dominating the airwaves. People, you need to understand somethings: My prophecies are to learn and grow from, not to commit acts of hate and violence.
So basically what I was saying before being jumped by another writer, was that Jews control the Entertainment industry and foreign policy, and the Department of Corrections Prison Police Industry controls the newspapers and news outlets.

Facts speak otherwise. Tell me though…where did wealth originate from? Can you trace it? Or did it just appear? The way things are…do you really think it was “earned”? Or do you suppose someone forced their way in and commanded it? Who designated those lake front properties? People settled on a first come, first serve basis. You’d be wise to learn this.
What you call “working hard” is really “working hard at manipulating in their favor”. Resources can be traced to an origin point…where the first ones got in on the action and their progeny benefited. That has NOTHING to do with working hard, but has everything to do with luck and fate.
People also capitalize on established cultural norms. For people who are non conformists, or who don’t believe in the established cultural morays, business can suffer or be shunned from ever starting. Case in point: If Christianity is big in the community, and you tout yourself as a law abiding Christian Family Man, your business has a better chance of making it, then a non-theistic, agnostic, secular humanist trying to start up in the same locale. Proven Fact.
So in such a scenario “working hard” has less to do with success than “fitting in” with established cultural norms does…i.e. Christian Lifestyles and Beliefs. You should have clarified: Work Hard (while still obeying cultural morays and social norms)…that would have been more accurate a statement.
Philly is upset because he has realized he is not living up to his full potential. He lives in mom’s basement, collects disability and contributes nothing to society. He talks about people conforming to standard morays and puts down most of society when what he really wants is to be king and have everybody conform to his ways. And after Adam puts in a hard days work, a portion of what he has earned goes to you as you receive your government assistance, how do you feel about benefitting from somebody else’s hard work Peter?
This is obviously difficult for your simple mind to wrap it’s head around. A system is designed, or come’s about through time. Humans are born into the work of the prior generation. Whatever presents itself as concrete and steel tends to be viewed with sanctity. All of it can be demolished or reconfigured. Bare land can spring forth a new vision. The system that is designed is not gospel, and is crumbling. You’re too stupid to see that.
There are new rules and customs in my new system. For starters, every human by Constitutional Law is granted 1 acre of land. By that decree alone homelessness is wiped out. 60% of the day is spent working on your own land for your own purposes, raising your family, educating children, tending to your food supply, doing repairs etc. 40% of workday is spent contributing towards collective efforts in the community of your choosing, under your freewill. Freewill and security abounds.

Do police and deputies have a “real job?” They take tax payer monies, and perform questionable functions based on narrow special interested politics (often going against population survey polls). How about Government “Defense” Contracts? How about Pakistani military aid money? Are all these within your definitions for proper use of taxpayer monies? Forgivable loans to Fortune 100 companies? Yep, you’re right…someone richer or more connected says it’s okay, so those are acceptable.
Peter, a real job can be anything you do to earn a living, legally. Peter you must support yourself, as it stands now, a portion of other peoples earnings support you, you have not given anything to earn that assistance you get. Taxpayers should not have to foot your bill. Pretending you are starting a new society is not a job, you are like a kid playing make believe.

In monster movies “less is more”; Think Cloverfield. If they show the monster too much, it ruins it. It’s the suspense and mystery of “what’s out there”, versus seeing it full on. I hope they keep the monsters well hidden. Think of the perspective of people on the ground. Would they get full access to an aerial shot of the monster? No. They would only get partial fragmented glimpses. I’m keeping my fingers crossed, cuz there is potential for this to be a good movie.

Not sure about the EEOC rules, but same deal went on when I worked at the Globe. HQ would surround himself with hand-picked puppets who were dumber than him and depended on staying in his good graces to keep their jobs right below him. They took all the heat when things went bad, but gave him all the credit for anything that went right. Robin Anderson wants to have loyal, dependent people working for her that would never sell her out or undermine her little fiefdom. Good old boys club in action, protecting itself.
And they are CHEAP employees, who don’t have much expertise and work for intern wages! Since both the Chamber and Main Street Mason City are 501(c)3’s, they’re held to an especially high standard with respect to hiring. Look at Iowa Workforce Development here in town, for example, there are several employees for whom English is a second language, who have physical disabilities, etc. They obviously know the rules! So why not the chamber and main street, why don’t they hire people like that?!
@Higher Standard-I am not entirely sure but I know that agency’s that are funded by taxpayer money such as the city, county, and state are required to post on a public service such as a newspaper or Iowa Job Service for any openings. As they are taxing city money in the form of a grant I would think they would come under these rules. As I said, I am not positive on that.

“Publicly” could mean a posting on their front door. It’s not a government position, so it really doesn’t matter who they hire. Buying an ad in the Globe would be a budget buster.
@Polio Loco_you are correct. I found out last night that they are not required ti publically search for a candidate as they are not a government agency and they come under a different 501. Ethically it would be good for them to do it but they are not required to.
Does it really need to be said? The Chamber, the City, the County, the State – ad infinitum – can be REQUIRED to post an advertisement, put up signs, plaster billboards all over God’s good creation, take all the applications they can, in the end, they’re going to hire someone who is “connected” or an “insider.” The only way it could be fair if the applications are “blind” – no names, addresses, phone numbers – just a resume of experience and skills. Then select the interviewees.
Think about it, how the heck are you supposed to contact the applicants with no names, addresses or phone numbers on the application?
I think the idea here would be to have someone not in the decision loop take all of the applications and copy them. Then take the copies and remove any identifying information and place a number on the application which corresponds to a number on the original.
Then let the hiring team have the (now unidentified) applications to judge them on merit and choose as many as reasonable for the interviews.
Give them back to the original person to look up and make the calls.
The chamber isn’t a government entity. No public notice is needed.

I just researched this and read the case file and I couldn’t say that it is false. When I research something I try to prove it is false and this time I couldn’t.
After watching the briefings on the latest Ft. Hood shooting, it’s curious to me why they always put the focus on the problems the individual who did the shooting have, but never examine the overall policies the military is following itself. This form of “myopic self-righteousness” group behavior is probably why these shootings continue to exist. It’s supremely arrogant and troublesome that the “authorities” are never wrong in the policies they determine for everyone to follow.
And here’s what else they don’t like to talk about: The shooter was ON PSYCHOTROPIC MEDICATIONS when he did the shooting. He was receiving “treatment” in the official manner. The predominance of suicides and homicides have been occurring while ON MEDICATIONS…not off. Evidence suggests the medications themselves are causing people to lose it and go ballistic, whereas if they weren’t on the medications, they may not be well, but they’d still be alive…and so would the victims.
What do they expect to happen when they are running 2 foreign wars, and network television shows depicting constant gunplay, shootouts, and the most heinous of crimes? But that’s just part of being “normal” right? To accept it all as an integral part of American Existence.
What you fail to mention is that the shooter put on the internet 3 days ago that he was going to do this shooting on Ft Hood and yet he still got on base.

Ok I am going to post this again Went to Kmart this weekend and there is not much left. I cant believe that people are buying so much if you look you can see that they raised the prices of the stuff just to lower it. Taking away the Recent Comments feed from the Front Page and minimizing the comments to 490 characters is an obvious attempt by NIT to direct attention to the stories and away from the “comment addiction”. It really serves as annoyance by making people take an extra step through a story portal in order to see the sidebar comments, to keep up on the action. I actually read less of the front page stories than when it was the other way. This type of Cattle Herding is sorta insulting.

My wife and I received a text at the same time this morning claiming it was from Wells Fargo and that our debit card had been compromised and was frozen and that we should click on the message to reactivate it. I called Wells Fargo and it was a scam. Do not reply to that text as they are just trying to get your information.
Thanks for posting that, I received the exact same text. I don’t even bank with Wells Fargo, but just in case I called the 24 hour 800 number to make sure. She assured me that as long as I didn’t respond or give out any info I should be fine. I even ran to the gas station and bought a pack of gum just to be sure my card still worked. I’m sure people already know, but never, never, never give anyone your personal info if you’re not 100% sure they need it or they are trustworthy.
We went to the ATM at Wells Fargo and drew out $20 just to make sure and everything was fine. It is just another scam. I don’t know what the country is turning to. All the cheats trying to steal from people who work for a living.

To get me through the physical part of basic training I built a house by myself in my head. I have always wanted a house totally off grid in the rockie mountains to live like they used to. I love mysteries, reading the news and watching how the politians I put all the clues together and I see the United States like Russia was in the 79’s and 80’s. I have talked to quite a few friends in the military enlisted and officers and they all agree with me.
Both Bookmeyer and Trout are the type who take a dislike of the common person upon first contact. Both are able to make the common person feel okay during conversation. Later both Bookmeyer and Trout will go to personal extremes to in flick pain and suffering upon the poor soul they had just conversed with. Very sad and disillusioning to have men like these two in leadership jobs in our home area.

I just saw on CBS this morning there’s only one African American in Nascar named Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr in the entire profession of stock car drivers…and only one woman too. Out of 43 drivers, 42 are white males. The fan base is comprised of 78% whites and 62% are males.

Braley seems to equate “being a lawyer” and “going to law school” with some level of greatness. Just wondering who is a manditory reporter in the state of Iowa? Do police officers qualify as a manditory reporter and do they always have to report a crime, even if they aren’t on duty when they learn about the crime? Just wondering who might know the answere to this question.
Local officers have told me that they are officers 24/7. Reporting is another thing. We all know officers are human and make mistakes. We also know that sometimes they look the other way.
So would a crime of statutory rape be a crime an officer shouldn’t over look? How about a church? Does a church need to report this crime? How about an assistant camp director or a few who are foster parents, do they need to report such a crime? The excuse the officer used was that he wasn’t on duty when he learned of the crime. At what point is an officer, a church, the leadership of that church held liable for not reporting such a crime? Just wondering.
If this case isn’t hypothetical, is there some reason that anyone can’t report it, if they have certain knowledge?
One doesn’t need to be a mandatory reporter to report and mandatory reporters have rules they must follow as well.

Well, the officer and the church kept it quiet till the young lady turned 18 before they even told her father. Once she was 18 only she could make the report. To my knowledge the rape went on for around 3 years. I have asked the chief of police and all he sent me was a copy of the Iowa code. I also wrote a letter to the Iowa Attorney General and they forwarded it onto the county attorney to investigate the “crime” but I have not heard anything since then.
Just wondering. I would assume this happens way more than one would think. I dated a woman whose daughter was molested by her uncle. local police did nothing. The mother was molested by the same person 25? years earlier. I would like to know if the molester (or family of) in your situation has money or clout in the county.

@Mediator-I think you are correct. The idea was to bring in prisoners from other county’s and the Feds were housing people there for a while. Most county’s built new jails to avoid the transport cost. We also have a very expensive court room that isn’t utilized very much. At one time there was talk about moving the Mason City P.D. out there but I haven’t heard about it for awhile. I know they have been discussing building a new Police Department for some years.
Law enforcement officers now are part of the revenue gathering system. The ranks of cops are young and competitive, they’re in competition with one another and intra-departmentally. It becomes a game. Policing isn’t about keeping streets safe, it’s about statistical success. The question for them is, Who can put the most people in jail? I’m tired of ending up in jail for what they call law breaking. Find some real criminals and get off my back!

I actually thought you’d explain it to me rather than just say my question was funny. I take it from the link you embedded that the issue isn’t actually nuclear power, but nuclear accident risk?
I can see that’s a valid concern, but I think there’s a lot of potential in the nuclear industry and it’s time to increase research there, not pull it back. We can develop small/local reactors that don’t have the potential for Fuch’n up the environment. (I think Thorium is one such??)
But why if we don’t have to? Why not try all clean renewable sources first to a maximum potential, and then discuss some of the “dirtier” technologies to make up for the deficit (if there is any). Part of the Earthship concept requires interfacing with the environment in a totally new way so that the energy requirements for day to day living are drastically reduced or eliminated entirely. You have to look at this from a different perspective other than just asking for more more more.
I’m all for developing alternative/renewable energy systems to the fullest.
To me, this includes clean nuclear energy including researching/developing fusion tech.

Buzz if you could have taken a moment to look up from the roadkill you gnaw on, you would have seen the decision to run for office was made on the fly, to accentuate the disapproval of loud tailpipes. From what I’ve seen, referees are highly flawed in the NCAA. They call fouls which shouldn’t be fouls. It’s imperfect system. Perhaps all calls should be made from video monitors. I saw some calls today and yesterday that undoubtedly cost some the game. Refs are calling WAY TOO MANY fouls, and should let the players play it out. I also notice a lot of “acting” going on by those who charge the net, then fall down on purpose to trick the judge into believing they were fouled.
It’s really getting hard to watch sports anymore because of the bad officiating.

Philly, IP address’s are “dynamic,” the MAC address stays with your PC or switch. You can only have a static IP if you pay for it. That is why tracking by IP is most likley worthless.

I have read suggestions the distribution center may be Wal-Mart. It makes sense. Since people protest when they come to town, it explains the requirement for absolute secrecy until AFTER construction is completed. If it is Wal-Mart people should rise up and demand Clear Lake city officials step down from office. That would be considered “pulling a huge fast one” over on the people. Wal Mart does more harm than good, and has been driven out of regions due to their business practices.

Well I’m kind of sad. Tomorrow a man travels up from Iowa City to buy out my guitar making operation. I will become yet another artisan / artist in transition trying to find a home. America is full of talented people displaced by corrupt circumstances. There were too many irreconcilable differences here in Clear Lake, as well as at the home I was living at. My knowledge and skills stay with me, but my tools do not. Now, whether to homestead or join the Green Revolution in Colorado???

I started my small business in good faith, but tailpipes kept getting louder: Harley’s, choppers, small cars, and big oversized pickup trucks; all altering their exhaust. I did some research: there is a city code under disorderly conduct which prohibits this as well as a State muffler law, yet the police did nothing. I went to the council and they did nothing. I cannot stay in such a region, when other crimes such as marijuana possession are punished, yet loud illegal tailpipes are not.
There are Harley’s in Colorado too. And, they are just as loud as they are here. Maybe louder.
Yes but at least they aren’t as hypocritical in their zealous prosecution of marijuana. I will check into what their state code says as well as any municipal codes concerning loud pipes. I read the city of Golden Colorado came to terms with their loud bikers and solved the problem. Here in Clear Lake, they don’t even acknowledge the problem…they just bury their head in the sand like Ostriches. I don’t like the sound of loud bikes, but I don’t like the sound of hypocrisy either.

I think Amy was with one of the Rochester stations as a news anchor for awhile then she was with Waldorf College in Forest City. I don’t know how she came to be a car salesperson. She was a bright lady but something happened.

@Philly-Not trying to ruin your enthusiasm here but it cost hundreds of thousand of dollars to get the required license and permits to sell pot in Colorado. There is currently over 300 “stores” in business and I am pretty sure every pot head in the state is trying to get a job there. Good luck on selling out. Why don’t you try getting a normal job like a car salesman. Electric cars are good. I am thinking of buying one.

A note for NIT. I’m not sure who to send this to. But I think you should know that the Globe Gazette is really jealous about this site and they look at it all the time. They are constantly talking about it and obsessed. I have seen them reading this site on their computers. I think it is because NIT’s stories are better, not all the time, but a lot of the time. Just thought I should pass that along. PS I’m a new subscriber and check NIT first thing everyday.

So what would you rather have me do? Work some menial job in North Iowa for subsistence living, or design and build homes which can eliminate your power bills, grow a significant portion of your vegetables, recycle grey water, process your own shit, and cost about 50% cheaper?
If I can prove to you that I can take a mobile home and keep the internal cabin temperature at 45 degrees when the outside air temp is below 10 degrees with NO electrical, wood, corn or pellet burning, propane or natural gas heaters…and no geothermal systems, would you then STFU and stop pestering me?

I have done this before. I “Earthshipped” a mobile home trailer in Gracious Estates, and invited people from the court inside to witness it for themselves. I also built and installed a solar hot water heater on the roof which provided me with 140 degree hot water in a 40 gallon tank. My original complaint to the Globe Gazette Discussion Board was because the MCPD refused to investigate a known criminal who had broken in and stolen thousands of dollars in materials. I couldn’t continue.

Actually, I had just got off work, and read Buzz’s degrading comment. I guess I got a little angry. I don’t mean my statement to include a blanket sweep of everyone…just some of the jerks who hold back progress and keep things oppressive and slow. People like Buzz and LVS don’t realize their attitudes are what causes me to lash out against people as much as I do. Constantly being attacked and needing to defend myself makes one bitter.
Unasked, so I apologize for being forward, but a little advice for your perspective. Others don’t cause you to react, they don’t control you. You are responsible for the responses and actions you make. From that perspective you will hopefully take strength and can see that you alone give you the power in your life to control how you respond to the world around.

terrorism: the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims. I believe it does fit under this definition as loud engines and Harley’s have become a cultural phenomena which translates into a political goal: to keep their engines loud. They control politicians for this objective. It is unhealthy and distressing to constantly and unexpectedly be harassed with loud random noises at all hours. Many old, sick and children can attest to this. It is not innocuous.

I believe people should have the dignity to work at what they choose, and how they choose…not what others dictate for them. I just finished my shift.

I told you I hadn’t quit anything yet. I’m still working it every night. However, I have decided I’m moving to Colorado. So I will be putting in my notice…just not yet. I’m better than this, and I deserve better options than what is offered here. Colorado is incredibly progressive on many levels…2nd Amendment included. It’s going to be my new homeland. And when I get settled, Iowa will be but a bad dream.
The fact that you think Colorado is progressive when it comes to the 2nd amendment shows me that you actually have NO clue. It is funny that the citizens of Colorado know more about the constitution and the bill of rights than the politicians. Same could be said for the rest of the country.
geez maybe, then why is it that a CCW holder can drive all the way into Colorado and both Nebraska and Colorado honor Iowa CCW permit holders? And why when I spoke on the phone with a man who lives outside of Denver and knows all about 2nd Amendment rights told me they ousted a few congress people who tried to mess with gun rights? Colorado is big on the 2nd Amendment. You better do your research more. NRA website is a good starting point. I think UR just P.O. because they have it all.
In fact, check out this NRA Colorado link. Colorado doesn’t even require a permit to purchase handguns, and Iowa does. They pretty much have the same rules regarding issuance of CCW permits as Iowa, but in some regions if it is legal to open carry a firearm, you don’t need a CCW nor a permit to have purchased. Much more liberal. There is reciprocity between Colorado and Iowa…and Nebraska too.
That’s what I said about the citizens no more than the politicians, that’s why they had to kick 2 of them out and will soon start on the rest. Many states honor CCW’s from other states and some don’t, example Minnesota does NOT honor Iowa’s CCW’s. The big cities in Colorado, Denver, Colorado springs are so backwards when it comes to the 2nd amendment that it’s pathetic. When you are talking about them being progressive we all know what you are talking about, pot.

I haven’t quit anything yet. But my mind is going thru a lot of suffering while I’m working the job. As I’m very intelligent, I needed to redesign some things right away. It’s making things go better, but still not perfect. It’s difficult as smart as I am working systems that I pick apart immediately as being inefficient and inferior. I’m hanging in there for as long as I can. It’s too bad we just can’t take cognitive IQ tests. I’d rise quickly that way.

My uncle bought this bike 35 years ago and then hung it up in his garage and never rode it, my son bought it from him and 3 months later it was stolen.
@maybe-that is to bad that these people can just walk in and steal things that were paid for by working people. I know somewhat how you feel as they have broken into my garage three times and stolen all of my tools (some that my dad bought me when we were first married 52 years ago) Those tools had no value to anyone but me, but they took them anyway. They have stolen the propane bottle off my grill twice. All of me neighbors have had stuff that they paid for stolen too.
I have some things that I saved up, if they want to steal them go ahead and try, lead. I will be happy to give them some if they come over.

Peter, most of what you deem as “your rights” are nothing more than demands and your lack of knowing what social contract is all about is quite apparent. That is why you turn off so many people as you just continue to bloviate. You ever seen the movie “Cool Hand Luke?”. Paul Newman’s character Luke tries and tries to break out of prison and subvert the authorities who have him incarcerated, and he keeps failing and things keep getting worse for him. Finally, he capitulates/surrenders to the reality around him. He starts kissing ass, and taking the role of a completely obedient model prisoner….so much so that the Warden begins trusting him to the point that he lets him out of his site and even gives him the keys to his truck to fetch something out of it (they are on chain gangs along the ditches and roads). Well just when all seems permanently conformed Luke steals the Wardens truck and races off. The movie ends with Luke holed up in a farmhouse, and he is shot dead. He dies with a smile on his face as they drive him away in the car headed back to the prison hospital.
I’m not in the presence of friends. I’m not in the presence of allies. I’m in a prison. I understand that much. Hopefully when the time is right, I can break free. It’s Cool Hand Luke mode. I’ve got a lot of bills to pay, and if I can buckle down for a while and become a zombie slave (like everyone else) maybe at some point there will be a break in the clouds.
LVS wins. Now he can go back to his sense of domestic tranquility. Luke is serving the masters.
Oh, and I forgot to mention, I just saw the movie Robocop at the Lake Theatre, and I liked it.

It was quite sad to see a senior today trying to walk downtown, but not get past the curb because of flooding and high piles of snow/ice.
There are few residents in and around the Mercy area who also deserve recognition for at the very least, making an effort, if not going all out and clearing to dry pavement, you have my gratitude.
To the rest, especially north Fourth Street SW and East of Monroe, get off your duffs and clear your walks of ice and snow.
Yes I also noticed some businesses do well others don’t. North Federal and 12th, the construction company there. Kleen Sweep. Ever heard of shoveling?

My brother blows off the snow for the central park dentistry and the new radio station and that’s also where he has problems with the snow plows waiting for him to finish then pushing more snow on the sidewalk and laughing at him as they are doing it.
