Seriously Matt, things are loading up way slow. Did this happen when you changed the comments scheme around? Not sure what’s going on, but perhaps you should roll back some changes you made, because everytime try and load up a page it takes forever.

I run Google Chrome, and it has nothing to do with my internet connection. Matt did something behind the scenes, and it’s making things run God Awful Slow.

I am surprised that you haven’t made mention of wanting to be appointed as the next Chief of Police for Clear Lake though. I figured that would be a given.
Upon being hired for a law enforcement position, a candidate has what? 6 months or a year to complete training in Des Moines? I think it’s theoretically possible that I could be hired for the job of Police Chief, and then attend the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy after my hire. I wouldn’t prosecute marijuana users though…so that would indeed place me at odds with traditional department policy I’m sure.
The chief of police is an appointed position, The mayor appoints him, he would still have to go through the academy.

@Philly-I run chrome and yesterday it was kind of slow. It was like someone was trying to post at the same time I was. It is a lot better today. I also tried BING and it was terrible.
I have already told you, I run both IE and chrome and mine is running and loading faster but don’t take my word on it.

It does need to be a relative and it needs to be ok’ed by the DOT. The work permit has stipulations that must be met.

I grew up cutting wood for our wood stove, in the morning we would gather up our clothes and run downstairs to get dressed in front of the stove. The main thing I learned from my youth concerning the cold, don’t go outside unless it is absolutly nessessary. After milking and feeding the cows I would stay in till it was time to milk again. I find it very interesting that Travis Hickey and Jean Marinos do not want answer the public with there questions or comments. Is it because they will not have time to ask Eric what there answer should be? Or are they to afraid to say I might need time to research that and actually have to get back to someone in the community that does not eat at the County Club or hang out with the elite?

Tuesdays City Council Meeting. Kuhn and Tornquist amended to have Public Speaking limit to 5 minute but a council person could respond. Hickey and Marinos voted no stating, they did not feel they should respond. Just not sure how after election the elected officials forget the voters put them there and now they don’t have to answer questions. What happened to a transparent government?
They can get away with anything now that Matt doesn’t go to council meetings.
Why should Matt go to council meetings? The citizens of North Iowa don’t vote…which means they don’t care.

Matt, why do sometimes comments just disappear when you try and post them, and then when you go back to try and send it again, it tells you “Duplicate Comment Detected”. I wait and wait thinking the comment will eventually show up, but it never does. What’s with this glitch? Have others been experiencing this as well?
I used to get those all the time, I downloaded chrome and it has worked ever since.
I always tell people to type long comments in a separate file and then copy and paste it into the comment box on NIT. Then on one of those rare occasions the comment does not post, you still have it. Sorry about the issue, I think it could be blamed on the browser or a spam plug-in or an internet connection timeout or any number of factors. Welcome to the internet.
Matt I would do that, I would type it in then copy it before I sent it but then it would disappear so when I would try it again and hit paste it would say duplicate, chrome worked for me so it has to be something in IE.
I had the same problems when I was using Explorer and BING. Since I changed to google chrome the problem has gone away.
Today I was at WalMart in the parking lot and wondering why the hell everyone has no abilty to park in the lines dispite there being clearly visabal lines.dumshits! i went in the store did my shopping and was pushing my cart back to my van when i clearly watched another driver back right into my van and just drive away. He left a real nice dent for me that i cannot pay for since im unemployed and right now my insruance has lapsed. what is people problem anymore i just dont get it
if you clearly watched it then you have their plate number and description. I have seen this before. usually it a large expensive vehicle. those bastards with expensive vehicles think they can do whatever they want.

A couple of things here.
1. you were shopping at walmart. What were you expecting?

This country has been telling lies, and misleading about drugs for a very long time. The police force is the back bone and implementation. Of this flawed concept.

That’s exactly right. When we tell lies about cannabis and the kids know it, then they don’t believe us when we tell them about meth. It’s been shown that DARE a drugs “show and tell” actually results in increased drug usage for our youth and why it’s been stopped in most places. The reason they had a cop teach this class is because the message they’re sending is what we’re telling you isn’t as important as who is telling you. When you lie to kids right off the bat, you can’t tell them the truth later. It results in them not believing anything.
My question still stands, what did Pals lie about? By saying “that doesn’t deserve an answer” does not cut it with me.

I have a little confession to make and thought this is the best place to do it since no one will no who I am. I am 19 years old NIACC student and just moved here from quite a distance, don’t know a lot of people, been very lonely, even now that I’m home on break. Last semester I became very close to a female instructor. At first we “just friends” but things have been getting…. a little more interesting lately let’s just say. She is two and a half times my age but at this point I don’t seem to care, but I do feel very confused and sometimes wonder if this relationship is a mistake. We have a great time together and I guess that’s all that matters but school will be starting again soon and my boyfriend is transferring in. I just don’t know what to tell him…. maybe it’s better I do not.
1. The instructor can be fired for it getting ummm…”interesting”. You may want to keep that in mind if ever need “financing of sorts” later on. A young girls gotta get paid in today’s world.

LVS what’s with all the threats and intimidation tactics? Are people not allowed to voice their opinions on political matters? Pals is an elected Sheriff. Any elected position is subject to opposing viewpoints. While I agree that Sheriff Pals is legally obligated to uphold the ratified laws of this state (however it makes me scratch my head why muffler laws seem exempt from his duties), but I do not agree that he should be using his position to try and influence policy. That is beyond the scope of his office and duties. If Mr. Pals wants to shape policy, he should run for State Congress, State Senate, or become a lobbyist. Using the Sheriff’s office to try and influence is not ethical and I hope that he is not doing this.

You are a fine one to talk about Pals lobbying for what he believes in. Look what you do over and over every single day. At least what Pals does is based on the law and what the majority of the people in Iowa want. My point is that these gutless wonders would never stand in front of him and shoot off their mouth. SO Im pulling up to my bank in mason City right by the courthouse got my checkbook and purse on the seat next to me and a somewhat disheveled black man flagged me down. AS I stopped and put my window down I could see he was a little desperate and even though i suddenly wondered ‘o shit’ I still asked him what was wrong.He said he just moved here from Saint louis and has no money and no place to go and he wanted money. I have a complaint. This morning my friends brakes were freezing up and had to pull over to the side of the road. My friend sat their for awhile pumping the brakes to see if it would do any good, hazard lights were blinking to let others know. A sheriff car drove right on by without stopping to check things out or too see if there was a problem.

What does a soliloquy on the lives of cops have to do with examining whether drugs should be legalized or decriminalized? You think I have some inherent animosity towards law enforcement…I do not. I’m intellectually curious as to why certain things are the way they present themselves to be. During my examination I have come to the conclusion that governments really shouldn’t be controlling what a human does with their body, and that drug consumption really equals consumer choice and consumer freedom. There is no scientific proof that shows every user of drugs will become a deranged psychopathic criminal lunatic. The assumptions for criminalizing drugs are based on propaganda and faulty assumptions.
Your body, your choice. If you want to swallow a cup of bleach…it’s your choice…the government has no say in it. You of course accept the consequences good or bad for having swallowed the cup of bleach…but the act should not be found in the penal code of America.
Furthermore I would say the money spent fighting drugs should be removed from prosecuting them, and instead put into educating consumers and treating abusers medically…much in the same way treatment is offered for alcoholics and tobacco users, and media campaigns are launched on television and in magazines. I have no problem with governments or independent agencies providing their reasons for why they feel certain drugs or cannabis should be not used…and they are welcome to provide whatever scientific evidence they may have…but it must be in a counselor capacity, not as an enforcer. Citizens can then make up their own minds as to whether or not they will consume the substances.
IN the long run it is better for a society to be informed, educated, and make freewill choices not to use certain substances, rather than having Daddy Prosecution standing over them making sure they don’t. I prefer the educated, mature approach to these issues. I wouldn’t even mind some form of drug licensing that could be issued to people…similar to a gun permit or drivers license…and it would be a ‘shall issue’ permit, with only criminal behavior such as felonies being allowed to “revoke” a persons license to consume drugs.
But until the human’s drug use has proven criminally consequential…governments should have no right to dictate what can or cannot be consumed in a free society.
I am merely going from memory as your previous comments have been deleted but I seem to remember how you said “you don’t recognize the authority of the police”. I was merely trying to impress upon you what a difficult job they have to do and to smooth the waters should you have any future run ins with law enforcement. Law makers are a whole different kettle of fish.

It was noticed by patrons of the bar. When Mr. Blodgett came out he did confront the guy cause customers told him what went down. The guy was arrested down at the AR park in bay side. Never once said one word of a gun being pulled on him. I was over more than 20$ bucks as some claimed, we got most of it back for him, he even said it was not about the money. Actually NIACC, I was aiming my Nazi allegation against someone writing as Anonymous, not LVS. LVS thus far has been pretty fair about gun rights and the 2nd Amendment…as has Wendingo. I don’t know this Todd Blodgett nor have I read any of his op-ed pieces, so I cannot comment on him.
The Democrats are wrong-headed in their approach. The better way to help people with mental illness is not to restrict and alienate them, but to include them, and to help them work through their issues.
Plus as I’ve stated, people who are suffering mentally but know what can happen to their gun rights, won’t go and seek help. And for those who are “helped” erroneously or against their will, it will bog down the courts with endless fights to challenge committals or overturn psychiatric diagnosis.
Besides, I want to know what makes some people think their shit doesn’t stink and they are so sane when other people aren’t? I really get sick of the elitist bullshit that gets passed off around here.

Either way it’s a bit of a gamble. You’ll never figure out the calculus perfectly when it comes to large numbers of unknown variables: 1. hundreds of millions of people 2. hundreds of millions of guns accounted for and unaccounted for 3. human unknowns like acute pathological and psychiatric disturbances, anger, jealousy, hatred,. You will never be able to know who will snap and who won’t. Many of these cases are with people with no prior undocumented mental illness. In fact, I’m quite ashamed that Obama and the dummycrats would pick on people with mental illness because the vast majority of them aren’t homicidal. IT’s a real insult to people.
I think society should accept the risk, and look to protect themselves in other methods, like keeping track of people with known violence issues, as well as continuing to train people on proper gun ownership. I’d rather have a population that’s responsibly armed so that if a shooter does emerge, people can fight back and not have to sit around like ducks waiting for the police to arrive.
In fact, I’m going to need to do some research now to determine how many of these shooting incidents have been committed by people with known psychiatric disorders compared to people with no records who just snap. I’m not buying this bullcrap coming out of Connecticut. In fact, this Conn. example is the worst possible example because the kid wasn’t even a legal gun owner, and stole the guns from his mother.

LVS and Windengo said it is all righty with them for Blodgett to pull a loaded gun on a carnival worker he accused of stealing his wallet. @Wayne-It is possible that you are a mental case. What wendengo and I said was the truth. It is NOT against the law to carry a gun in a bar in Iowa. It is also not against the law to have a drink while carrying a gun in Iowa. It IS against the law to be drunk and carry a gun in Iowa. It is NOT against the law to pull a gun on a thief or a criminal if you have a permit to carry the gun. That is why people carry a gun is to protect themselves and their property. Your bias against Todd Blodgett has clouded your mind. You should really know the law before spouting off and calling people names.
While it may be heroic and righteous in some people’s eyes, technically if that is in fact what occurred, Mr. Blodgett did not possess the legal right to pull out his weapon in the manner that he allegedly did. The law is clear that only if you feel your life is in danger and have no means to escape are you allowed to draw your weapon on a human being. Iowa doesn’t even possess a true Stand Your Ground law, but they hint that Stand Your Ground may apply in certain cases. However stolen wallets don’t count.
So, while I may agree, and you may agree that a person should have the right to stop a thief from walking off with your wallet…the law says otherwise.

I just read where the North Iowa Corridor Economic Development group named 5 new faces. If THEY were SERIOUS about moving North Iowa further along in bringing good paying jobs, maybe they could focus less on fancy titles and “big Names” for their board.

The board is a joke, in its entirety, as is the North Iowa Corridor. They will do a wonderful job of keep good jobs out of Mason City. You will need to drive to Charles City or Lake Mills or Osage or any of the other nearby towns that are adding jobs that pay a decent wage. There were over 140 applicants for a county job at the health department that was just filled that paid 15 – 16 bucks an hour. Crappy pay but for this town that’s a king’s ransom. Remember, $9.50 per hour in Mason City is amazing – Queen Jean Marinos said so herself – so jobs that pay double that wage will always be rare and hard to come by here. Okay perhaps for the first time in his Presidency I strongly disagree with Obama’s latest proposal to strengthen Federal Background Checks on people who have a history of mental treatment at hospitals.
By doing this they are going to further drive people underground who may otherwise seek mental health treatment. As the article I read pointed out, Adam Lanza and many others who have engaged in these mass shootings acquired their weapons in other non-legal ways.
Obama is making a huge mistake. He is being pressured by ignorant hysterical people who don’t know how to solve this problem the correct way.
The 2nd Amendment shall not be infringed. Period. People should be able to seek mental health treatment and still have access to their 2nd Amendment rights.
I see now that States need to stand up to the Federal Government.
This is a witch hunt pure and simple.
You just watch…the people who are suffering mentally but love their guns, will NOT seek treatment, and they will snap, and you’ll see more of these shootings.

I’ll bet when the crime statistics reports come out for the State of Iowa, we will see that since CCW permits have been designated “shall issue”, that overall crime, especially violent crime is down.
I commend the Iowa Legislators for upholding our 2nd Amendment, and our Sheriff’s departments who also have been doing a good job in this area.
I also appreciate that so far Iowa hasn’t had any terrible mass shooting incidents like the rest of the country.
While I may believe in ideals for human civilization, I’m smart enough to understand the human condition is a long way off. We are in a Savage Garden, and must have the rights to protect ourselves.

Look Holmes, here’s the thing about the medical industry…it is an OPINION, and they are prone to medical ERROR.
Try and envision this: A man is going through a rough breakup with his girlfriend whom he loves, or his wife, because he caught her with another man. The grief and anguish are overwhelming, and he temporarily loses his mind and begins saying things he will regret. So family members have him committed, and while in the hospital or mental facility the doctors record every single thing the grief stricken man says and puts it on his record.
Then when the grief passes a couple months later, he comes back to his senses and realizes life still goes on. Then a year or two after that, he realizes that he needs to protect himself in his home, and applies for a gun permit to acquire handguns.
Oh my golly…he is DENIED…because of those terrible couple months a few years back in which grief was completely heaped upon him at no fault of his own.
And you think this is fair? This is exactly the kind of scenarios that will begin happening if this bozo administrative order is allowed to go through.

Because of something known as the 1st Amendment, under which free speech and freedom of religion falls, one cannot use one’s words or beliefs against them to negate any other Constitutional protections.
If someone believes Aliens will return to the earth, or that the original human species was created by aliens such as Scientologists believe, that cannot be used by a psychiatrist or medical doctor to declare them insane thereby negating their 2nd Amendment rights. Actually I withdraw that comparison to Herbert Spencer. Think I’m kidding? I’m not. This has happened for decades, and may even continue to happen in certain regions of the United States. The mental health system has been and would like to become abusive and controlling once again. Unfortunately modern day Fascism has been allowed to flourish through its new manifestation: The psychiatric doctor/ law enforcement connection. If people don’t demand they back off…the incidents of drugging, and committals will only increase…because unfortunately, there exists this element in some human beings, and they can’t wait to incarcerate or control other people. IT’s a type of sickness really, and should be in the DSMV (Diagnostic Statistical Manual -5)

I’m just a simple Iowan who wants to work at building my business, and to live and work in a community that feels like a real community, and not some Chinese Import Section. And from what I see, this isn’t like the old days where some grit and determination can get you far. The deck has been stacked many levels high against regular people like myself.
Step 1: Place an import tax so damn high on Chinese wares that the ships will turn around…thereby boosting our own homegrown manufacturing.

And here it is in a nutshell. The philosophy is quite simple really. Every community works at becoming self-efficient and sustainable, so if the community really wanted to close its doors and stop all imports…it could and still survive comfortably. My philosophy is really based on a survival model. Once everything is provided for within our own region, only then would we export off to other regions. And if other regions would follow the same model, they could export off to us. The problem with the way it’s set up now is that we are all vulnerable and needy upon the next train and truck shipments bringing us supplies an fuel we need to live. Every region in Iowa has the resources and capability to become completely self sufficient…and that includes electricity production, water, food etc. We are blessed here in Iowa yet we act so stupidly and offend the blessings we’ve been given.

Crony capitalism, meaning the old money in the area that owns all the buildings and real estate, holds out waiting to make their million dollar asking price, while the community sits and twiddles their thumbs. I’m stating that if humans didn’t worship the capitalist model, they’d free themselves from the spell that has been placed over their minds, and would begin to think as a community of people once again. In communities that actually function in a healthy manner, buildings aren’t allowed to sit idle and are put to use for people to use. It’s called UTILITARIANISM, and it’s something crony capitalists have forgotten about. It means nada for a crony capitalist to sit on a piece of real estate for 20-30 years hoping the market will “turn around” so they can get their obscene profit.
I’m saying the net result is actually a compromised quality of life. Capitalism lies to people and tells them they will have a better quality life, but the facts on the ground speak otherwise. When real estate prices are driven up so high beyond normal people’s reaches, their American Dreams of living independently and owning and operating their own business or trade fades quick.

@History-If I recall my history communism in it’s purest form was really the best form of government. What they didn’t take into account was human nature. People are greedy and always want more. Some are lazy and if they don’t have to work they won’t. That of course causes resentment by the people who are working. It was also a system the was wide open for theft and corruption and people who sought power over other people took over. (North Korea is an example of that) so it just doesn’t work. Maybe some day after we have evolved somewhat it just might work.

Bought an appliance this summer. Wont answer the door, when you call he doesn’t answer the phone, but will call you back right away. Wouldn’t deliver until check was cleared, whatever that’s fine, but took him a few days to get the check to the bank, that’s not ok. Just a strange transaction, he has good stuff, but the whole thing is just odd.

Well those dumbass brown shirts didn’t realize that eventually Hitler had the leader of the Brown Shirts arrested and executed and he kicked them to the curb favoring the black shirted SS and the regular Army. It’s quite precious how so much of our present political system mirrors that of the 3rd Reich.

Actually you are very incorrect about your statement. I will never turn into an LVS. Reality only stings as long as you are resting at whatever uncomfortable spot you’re stuck at. The nice part about ascension…as soon as you figure out how to ascend…you ASCEND right out of the spot that hung you up. It’s a pickle at times, no doubt about that…but just when you think life is at it’s worse…something comes quite clear. I remember one lonely winter in the throes of depression, isolation, and frozen arctic wasteland of a quiet, nowhere town…where the air was so cold it forced the heat from the street lamps UP like flashlights. And it’s like walking on the moon. IT’s so miserable that it becomes fun. And when that happens, your depression disappears, and you come to LIKE the cold. But the keyword to all this is ASCENSION. Currently I have ascended using Starbucks Cafe Verona blend…but if it were legal to smoke marijuana or vaporize it…I would do that as well. I’m going to take a moment to explain to people some things. I’m not in an ordinary circumstance. My position allows me certain flexibility and shall we say advocacy that other people may not feel comfortable with. I’m able to speak openly about such matters because I have no contact with the products. I do not use the products. This is actually quite rare. Most people who advocate for the legalization of marijuana are in fact users themselves and thus are at a disadvantage because of needing secrecy and great care as to their voicing and political advocacy. So I would say just sit back and enjoy that I’m able to continue this debate on the eve of such a remarkable transpiration of events in America. There are others of course on here that speak openly…but I’m the only one who really has an identity to go with my dialogue. I have thoroughly vexed this issue with much scrutiny and examination from a variety of angles. Some take on the medical standpoint, but I prefer the freedom of religion, as well as libertarian approach over the medical but don’t deny that medical benefits could be had…I just don’t think that we need to have to prove every substance to the government before we are not prosecuted for it. I think the burden of proof should be on the government to prove that using such product adversely affects and causes direct harm to others. Anyway, I’m not going into the debate here.
I will say this though…I do not believe in continually keeping things underground. AT some point people are going to need to come to the surface in order for anything to get accomplished.
I do not like feeling like a criminal for anything…and my method of direct confrontation on this issue is because if I am to become a user of the plant known as cannabis, I will do so legally. No one should have to creep around in the dark for using a plant that grows on God’s Green Earth. Philosophically and within my ethics I can never support any government policy which seeks to eradicate a species from the terrarium of planet earth.

Deer are getting pretty bold around here these days. Went for my nightly walk tonight (boy was it cold!) and and made my way past a neighbor’s house where three deer were standing, only about 15-20 feet from me. They didn’t even move. They did stare at me though. Big old feeder in the yard was what they were after.
@JT-You really need to be careful with the deer at this time of year. People don’t realize it but if they feel threatened or trapped they will attack a human. They can do a lot of damage in a short time with those hoofs. If they lower their head and paw the ground, back away slowly. I have personally seen them attack. Of course the potheads on here are to brain dead to read a scientific report. They did test after test and found that pot users had lost their cognitive ability. Hence the term pot heads. I would throw my two cents in and say it is on a case by case basis to be handled. Is it a gateway drug for some? For sure. But I would say just as alcohol can be abused. No it does not. Again, you’re very biased. ALL the legitimate peer reviewed studies, including our own governments studies PROVE that cannabis does NOT cause brain damage in any way, shape or form.
However it IS known that alcohol DOES cause brain damage. It kills tens of thousands of brain cells with every drink. Alcohol gets you high by killing brain cells.
Caffeine is the active ingredient in coffee and does not cause brain damage, however there are deaths associated with it’s use while cannabis has no deaths associated with it’s use and does not cause brain damage at all. THC is not a foreign chemical. It only effects us because we have receptor cells for it. We have these cells because cannabis is the most ancient flower on the planet. For years I have heard that cigarettes give you lung cancer and second hand smoke is just as bad. Last week I saw on headline news a story that said that they might be wrong about the second hand smoke. All we know is what they tell us and if they are wrong then so are we. Who knows what the real truth is.
@maybe-I have heard the same reports. Second hand smoke was nothing more than a made up scam by the insurance company’s to push through their agenda. The same thing is going to happen with pot. LVS what you are seeing is the result of ignorance perpetuating itself because nature has made it easy to reproduce. Also you are seeing a lazy system that was installed many decades ago when people really needed help, and it stayed on without any updating, or refining (food stamps/welfare). Plus you are seeing a rigged system where humans are forced into rentals from large slumlord / landlords, with very little stake in their future…no chance to grow food, work on a trade, or feel like they have a stake in anything. This large automated factory farmed society has found it easier just to pay people off, then invest in their future by training them in the right way. Large surpluses of corn and soybeans enable large manufacturers like General Mills, Kraft, Con Agra etc to feed huge amounts of people. The add everyone’s addiction to the TV and it’s easy to see why the culture is so apathetic and lazy. It takes effort to train, and better yourself…and sorry honey…a degree at Kaplan ain’t what I had in mind. I’m talking REAL training…REAL EDUCATION. Self Sustainable Technologies…Trade and Technical…the Bread and Butter of this world. Not grooming someone to sit in an HVAC cubicle and answer calls, or act as an “administrative secretary”…or yet another “assistant nurse”…or worse “criminal justice degree”.

It’s not the “drugs” LVS…it’s whose hands the drugs are in. Just like a loaded gun, drugs in the wrong hands are of course going to be dangerous. Smart people, artists, creative types, philosophers, scientists, psychologists, psychonauts, spiritual seekers, Yogis, Buddhists, even Christians and other religious seekers use substances if they want to investigate reality and find out what’s “in-there” or “out-there”. IT’s a tool for enlightenment. I can give you an exercise if you would like to know what it’s like to be high without actually being high. You take in large amounts of air, and cough and cough and cough until you are almost on the verge of a pulmonary embolism. For a brief moment your hands and fingers may feel tingly and numb, but your mind will “switch over” and things will become more clear, and seem to “open up”. Time will slow down and everything will become more intense and vibrant. It’s scary and anxiety will ensue. Metaphorically it’s like an airplane as it climbs up to get to altitude…facing air pockets and resistance until you finally reach cruising altitude. You don’t have to actually smoke marijuana to achieve this. Yogic stomach and lung exercises (bandhas/kriyas,pranayamas) along with Yogic postures / poses (asanas) will simulate this feeling fairly closely, but not entirely.
Stop being scared LVS, and try. I advise against the deep coughing example because you could actually die from a pulmonary embolism, but since I have a lung condition, in the mornings I have no choice…and for a moment I get “high”.

Todd Blodgett is a very intelligent and personable fellow. He’s got courage and conviction and not afraid to speak his mind and he’s got a GREAT sense of humor. He’s always been very funny even as a youngin’. Todd was a teacher troll even before the concept was invented.
The only issue I have with Todd is his hardline against medical cannabis if he in fact has one. Pot is not coke. It’s not meth. It’s not alcohol and is not nicotine. It’s and HERB like coffee with an active ingredient and is certainly medicinal and may even reverse or shrink cancer tumors. This info is even on the federal governments own cancer website. Todd seems to have had issues with coke and now wants everyone to be a convicted felon for it, except himself. That I have an issue with as well.
But all in all Todd is a great man. A very funny and very smart man.
Yes teacher troll, that was Todd, he was in my social study class, 8th grade. The teacher was a man that always was trying to impress everybody, nobody liked him. Well this teacher told us this president from like back in the 1800s was a ancestor of his. Todd goes oh too bad for you, that president never got married, you have got some bastards in your family sir! So the teacher gets real mad he tells Todd that is detention, you have to go to the principle’s office. Well Todd said no. Then the teacher gets up out of his chair, he drags Todd out into the hall. He did get some detention for that but I don’t think he cared. But that teacher sure got knocked off his high horse.

@ Spock… I think Todd has probably been under the influence of his dad for so long that Dr. Blodgett’s politics sort of seeped into him, if you know what I mean. This is a very interesting thread for me to read because I do know Todd. I also know his ex-wife Lynda. Todd is his own man, and a sweet guy, but I wonder if he thinks he will never be the man his dad is? He does seem to go overboard at times in trying to put some space between himself and his family. I am glad he got over his drug problem.
Cocaine has medical uses also…when used by non-abusers. Freud used coke and a lot of really good music wouldn’t be what it is were coke not available to the musicians…how about Pink Floyd? Wendingo thank you for putting on here how things really happened at that bar. I do not agree with Todd Blodgett on his politics but just like you I have met the man. A few times. I have some complaints or questions and suggestions regarding the NIT site.
1. How does one access the think tank? I can’t find a link unless it’s in a recent comment.
2. Speaking of recent comments, it would be helpful if this list were twice as long since the actual discussions do not rise to the top with fresh comments like most other forums.
3. The add a new comment should not be at the very bottom where you have to scroll down forever to reach it.
4. It would be helpful to allow editing one time for say 5 minutes after a comment is made to fix spelling errors and syntax.
5. Turbo posters should be limited to say 15 posts a day. It’s too easy for LVS, for instance, to fill up the entire recent comment list.

Blodgett did not follow the law. He admitted he took a gun to a tavern and he consumed alcoholic beverages. That is illegal in this state.

@SUCKS-you see you have it all wrong as usual. The law in Iowa says if you have a carry permit you can go in a bar and have a drink. You can not be drunk or under the influance of illegal drugs and carry a gun. The way I understand it Blodgett was NOT drunk and was NOT under the influance of illegal drugs. As a matter of fact he would not be allowed a carry permit if he had ever been convicted of using ILLEGAL drugs. The last I heard it was still a felony and people with felony convictions can not carry a gun. You should really understand the LAW before you shoot off your mouth.

Look at the iowa code. It is legal to carry in a bar. iT IS LEGAL TO DRINK.but illegal to be intoxicated. Read and learn.
I know the Iowa code pretty good. A non pro permit holder as Mr Blodgett is, is not allowed to carry a weapon while being impaired by drugs or alcohol. He was not impaired by either. So that is a mute point.
That’s rich, you gotta love the hypocrisy! You can be buzzed off booze, not drunk and impaired and STILL weld your guns. However if you smoke a little pot, you are ALWAYS impaired and a criminal too boot!
There is nothing righteous or fair about any of this. These are affairs of men, laws created by politicians. Nothing moral or right about any of this. The big fear our current government has about cannabis is the huge amount of money that can be used for lobbying. It’s why all the legal states are sucking out all the money for themselves off the top and leaving patients to pay high prices.
Laws or lack there of are created by lobbying money and campaign money. It has NOTHING to do with right and wrong anymore at all. Asking the police what they think of pot is like asking a whaler what he thinks of hunting whales. Of course he’s for it, it represents his livelihood.
The bottom line is that all most of us really care about is our income and preserving that income at any cost. Teachers are in it for teachers and so on and so forth. America is not even close to the greatest country. In fact 16 other countries are ahead of us in terms of providing greater income for the next generation.

When it comes to the Cannabis issue I side with ‘Iowa Sucks’. He has the hypocrisy and angle on this figured out.
I support 2nd Amendment and yes Wendingo is correct: You can bring a firearm into a tavern but cannot become “intoxicated” meaning -over the legal limit, and it is up the establishment whether they want to allow firearms in their bar. Now, in the state of Nebraska if an establishment posts a “No Firearms” sign at their door and you bring one in anyway, you can be charged by the police the same as if you were to bring your gun into a courthouse. In Iowa, the most the bar can do is ask you to leave and you must comply or face a trespassing charge. I learned this in class.
@Philosophus-The law in Texas also says you can not not carry in a bar. I don’t think that is a bad law. People tend to lose control when drinking and would not be good if they had a gun.
Better put football games on that list. Probably safe to put all sporting events of all ages on that list. We have all seen how little league dads can overreact. Ever heard of a slippery slope?

I was born innocent and still innocent when it comes to crime and breaking the law. I am self employed, dont smoke anything, dont drink much (less than 30 beers a year), and do not try to break the law. All ideas I have about law enforcement have been taught to me. I have eyes and can read for myself. I also realize that law enforcement officers are human as I have stated many times before. humans make mistakes. THE PROBLEM COMES WHEN SOME HUMANS THINK THEY ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS. Another problem is when friends and business associates cover their ass when they make a mistake. If you truly believe what you wrote then you are an idiot.
I believe that if a law is enacted, then it must be there for a good reason. However when those laws only apply to a certain few, while others are allowed to break those laws. I have a problem with that. Also when those laws are enacted to “single out” certain people, and were never intended to be enforced equally. I have a problem with that. I agree with about everything 50 miles south has written…in fact it sounds like it could have come from me. I’ve been calling for equal enforcement of laws, and abolition of bad ones for sometime now. My theory is that when discretionary sentencing is eliminated it will equalize society better. Currently the judicial system has “discretion” to send one person to jail for 8 days and another for the same crime 5 years in prison. That has to change. But this isn’t just about police…it’s about EVERYONE. Equal in the eyes of the law…justice is supposed to be blind…remember?

Actually we didn’t and the reason isn’t personal. It’s just that Jody does a drive by route and she throws the paper from her car window and it usually lands on the city parking area or sometimes the sidewalk (if we’re lucky). The carrier before her was a 12 year old girl who hand delivered it to the front door, so we tipped her every year. If Jody were to begin placing the paper at the front door again, the tips would resume; that girl was tipped quite nicely I might add. Walking out to the sidewalk is a burden, especially in the snow and ice. So…that’s Jody’s choice I guess. Front door placement=holiday tip…street throw=no tip.
If NIT goes to print…we’ll want a subscription for that also.
Very good answer, and I agree. The decision to make the routes thsa I do, on property routes, was made by the Globe Gazette before I took them over. I had nothing, or no say in this decision. If NIT ever went to print, we look forward to your subscription.
Yes, I do work with NIT and deliver for the Globe. I also have a third, hourly paid job. All three of these places know that I work these three jobs. No job conflicts with the other. I find it easier to help keep a roof over our heads, pay the bills, put food in the cupboard, pay insurance and keep a high credit score. I even find some extra, sometimes, to give to charity. Thank you for your concern.

Absolutely. I didn’t even realize she was our carrier/thrower until I finally opened up the paper and found a card in it. She explained that it was the Globe’s decision to go with the motor route. The Globe must have found some way to save money by going with motor route throwers rather than deliverers. At least when a paper person is walking or bicycling the route they can throw it up on the porch. In the seated position in a car, it’s difficult to get much distance with a frisbee throw, and left handed at that. It’s not really relevant though LVS this particular carriers personal situation (although I commend her for working 3 jobs), it’s actually the Globe’s fault now that I learn more about this. I know what it’s like to take on a heavy load motor route. I had about 3 of them down in Iowa City working for the Iowa City Press Citizen. Big routes in 3 different neighborhoods…and I did it while homeless in the wintertime. So I get the morning paper route gig. But even so, I parked my car, and walked the papers to the doors or boxes, and if I threw, it was hitting their front door or up on their porch. Grassy area a few feet from the curb isn’t really much of a throw at all…more like a drop. Anyway…I’m not trying to be mean. I’m sure she has a lot of papers to deliver in a little time…but again, this is the Globe’s problem for treating this as a motor route when it should be a walking route.

I agree with LVS on this issue. People should not need to feel accosted, bullied or burglarized and just sit and take it…reporting it to police later. If someone is out to do harm or steal from you, you have the right to pull out your steel (or polycarbonate) and remind them you’re not to be messed with. I fully support that right for citizens. It’s very simple…you don’t violate people and you have nothing to worry about. Would you sit there and let some strange man make off with your wallet, id, money, credit/debit cards, pictures of your family…whatever…? Why in the hell should he? And if the Carney was willing to put up a fight back, then the man being stolen from has the right to do what he needs to: Warning shot first I would say, and then leg shot, and if he reaches for something…more shots. It sounds graphic, and I’m all for peace…but I don’t like the idea of someone stealing from you or bullying you. Guns are an effective tool to stop humans from doing bad things to others…and they act as a deterrent. The more people out there with conceal and carry permits, the less chance criminals know who is and isn’t armed. I must say that Iowa’s commitment to the 2nd Amendment is refreshing. I believe in Libertarian principles when it comes to personal habits. I’m actually a mixture of conservative and liberal…kind of strange really, since I’m against abortion, support the 2nd amendment, believe drugs should essentially be decriminalized and regulated the same as tobacco and alcohol…believe the government should provide citizens with land if they want, but cut off all welfare and food stamps, believe welfare mothers should be forced contraception to receive benefits…etc etc. But anyway…these in and of themselves are entire books that could be written. It’s owned by Tim Latham. I have never done business with this incarnation of Latham Furniture but I bought a love seat and chair from him when he was downtown. It was Ashley brand and did not wear well. It went to the curb during large item pickup several years ago. After 8 years. I don’t hold Tim responsible for the quality. With any big ticket purchase, do research on the brand.
My niece got these toy dolls and they sleep in coffins. I’m not joking about this. Supposed to be the hottest gift of the season for little girls. It’s called Monster High. Creepy as all get out. I was really shocked that such gifts were given on Christmas to children. The dolls are dead vampire girls who have coffins with makeup and other trinkets. They have scars and other marks on them. The kids go nuts over these things. Just seems wrong on the Lord’s birthday.

o.k., had a bike stolen a while ago, found it by a sitting by a house near me, called the police in order to avoid a confrontation, police took about 20 25 mins to arrive by that time the crackhead in the house poked his head out and i inquired about my bike. Then it was on, luckily no blows were thrown several people involved. Cop shows up and asks if i knew the serial numbers i didn’t. Meanwhile the crackhead laughing saying i shouldn’t take my own bike, and the cop almost agreeing with him asking why i didn’t report it stolen. I explained that it doesn’t do any good because they will tell you straight out theres no way to get your bike back followed by a bunch of excuses. My point is the reason this goes on here is the lackluster attitude the cops have, the crackheads know this, so basically if they aren’t caught red handed they will get away with the crime. So something should be done, quit protecting the crackheads. Hey thanks for ignoring me, have a top notch day.

I just finished watching the last parts of the latest Clear Lake City Council video. They seem like they are all one big happy family. When there’s a lot of well-wishing and nice words spoken about one another, I can see how easy it is for people to get sucked into liking the way things are. The problem with all that nicety stuff is it gets in the way of actually getting meaningful things done. I understand that manners is important to the people of Clear Lake. I’ll probably never be able to go anywhere with most typical political situations, because when something isn’t right, I can’t smile and talk good of the people who should be making it right. This is a trait that politicians must be able to do. Sit and wait their turn to get to talk and bring up points. I see now how American Politics has resulted in such a quagmire of ineffectiveness. Everyone is so hung up about respect and “proper behavior”. Some woman doesn’t like looking at 3 blighted houses and within 2 weeks the council buys the properties for $98,000. 300 + people (at least) say they don’t like to hear loud tailpipes and the Council does nothing because they didn’t like the guy who presented them the truth. So keep that in mind any person who may need to go tell the Council of Clear Lake something in the future. You better get your puckered lips out, ready to kiss some major ass…and come across as humble and feeble as possible…they like that.

I realized just now why so many people in America are on psyche meds. It’s the great American Coverup. People have to be drugged to override their natural intuition. Their natural intuition tells them things aren’t right with this society and country, and so they become depressed, and some manic or worse. So instead of addressing the issues which are causing citizens to become sick, they drug them with psychiatric medications so they’ll be falsely serotoninized. Then when they watch all the garbage on television or read the newspapers, they couple that with feeling things are alright and how they should be. Of course that is the “legal” method of overriding this broken culture. The other option is to self-medicate on street drugs or alcohol. Either way people are needing to override. Some people aren’t smart enough to know why it is things aren’t right, and I’ll admit, it has taken me years of introspection and meditation to be able to come to grips with the truth of this “disruption of the TAO”.
Look at it as a self-perpetuating ball of snow rolling down a mountain. People become sick, they lash out, or commit crimes, the police arrest them or put them in the booby hatch, then news reports on it, then the next person is watching the news and sees that someone else flipped out, then they flip out, then the police put them in jail or the hatch, then the news reports on it, then the next person….so on and so forth….
And this is why we are where we are today with the news cycle of constant horror stories of humans flipping and doing bad things. The news profiteers from human misery, as does the department of corrections and law enforcement, and yes even the medical personnel / psyche doctors want in on the action. And the other medical personnel are so busy unclogging arteries and doing heart bypasses from poor eating, they have plenty of business without the psyche end of things.
Yeah they emptied out the insane asylums back in the 60s in favor of psycotropic type drugs. Everything from Lithium to Lexapro. Anti depressants, and (horrors) anti psychotic drugs. And they are prescribed at the drop of a hat. So, a good deal of the population walking around right now is certifiably crazy…
