MASON CITY SCHOOLS: Tonight’s boys swim double dual has been postponed to next week (Thursday, January 18th) at Des Moines East beginning at 5:30 pm.
Gov. Kim Reynolds has issued a proclamation to ease restrictions for transportation of and access to fuel used for heat. The proclamation is effective immediately and continues through
11:59 p.m. on February 9, 2024.
The proclamation suspends the regulatory provisions of Iowa Code pertaining to hours of service for crews and drivers delivering propane, diesel, natural gas, and other fuels used for residential, agricultural, and commercial heating purposes.

An investigation is being conducted into an apparent altercation between U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert and her ex-husband Jayson Boebert at a restaurant, police in Silt, Colorado, confirmed Sunday.
It’s unclear what happened on Saturday, but Boebert’s campaign released a statement Sunday in which she said she “didn’t punch Jayson in the face and no one was arrested. I will be consulting with my lawyer about the false claims he made against me and evaluate all of my legal options.”
Police Chief Mike Kite confirmed the investigation, but declined to release details, including who called police.
Officers planned to talk with witnesses and ask the restaurant owners for any video that might have captured what happened, Kite said. The Miner’s Claim restaurant is closed on Sundays and no one answered the phone there.

The jobs report bookends a surprisingly strong year that largely defied earlier fears that interest rate hikes intended to bring down inflation would trigger a recession and drive more people out of work.
The December jobs gain beat expectations from economists, who projected the U.S. to add roughly 170,000 jobs last month, according to consensus estimates.
December also extended the longest stretch the unemployment rate has been below 4 percent since the mid-1960s.
Private sector earnings were also up 0.4 percent, according to the report. The average hourly wage has increased 4.1 percent over the past year, outstripping inflation, which clocked in at 3.1 percent in November.

Jury selection has already begun, and Mr. LaPierre has been in the courtroom for some of it. Opening arguments were scheduled for early next week.
The announcement, which is effective on Jan. 31, is not part of a deal with the attorney general’s office. Andrew Arulanandam, Mr. LaPierre’s longtime spokesman, will become the interim chief executive. The development was first reported by The Wall Street Journal.
