FREDERICKSBURG — Lana Rae Nelson, 78, of Fredericksburg, died October 23, 2026, at UnityPoint Health–Allen Hospital in Waterloo, leaving friends with warm memories of time spent traveling together and visiting close to home.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, October 26, at Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory in Fredericksburg. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Scott Smith officiating. Burial will take place at West Fork Cemetery in rural Dougherty.

Lana was born March 26, 1948, in Elma and made her home in Fredericksburg.

In a tribute shared on the funeral home’s guestbook, Barbara Gitch recalled their shop-hopping adventures, including a year when they traveled throughout Iowa together. Gitch described how proud they were of that accomplishment and expressed how much she would miss her friend.

Neighbor Mary Jane Leach recalled Lana as a sweet woman who lived down the alley. Their encounters often became opportunities to sit and visit — ordinary moments that now carry lasting meaning.

Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family. Service information and a place to share memories and condolences are available through Lana’s obituary and guestbook.
