CEDAR FALLS — UNI volleyball overwhelmed Evansville Friday night, tying a conference winning-streak record and delivering head coach Bobbi Petersen’s 650th career victory with a straight-set sweep at the McLeod Center.
The Panthers won 25-17, 25-12, 25-6 on October 23, hitting a season-high .422 and securing their 20th consecutive home victory.
The win was UNI’s 69th straight against Missouri Valley Conference opponents when counting regular-season and postseason matches, matching the program and league record. Northern Iowa also extended its separate MVC regular-season winning streak to 61 matches, eight shy of that record.
According to UNI, both conference streaks are the longest active marks in Division I volleyball.
Dykstra leads Panthers’ attack
Lily Dykstra finished with a match-high 15 kills, hitting .344 and adding two blocks. Cassidy Hartman and Calia Clubb contributed 10 kills apiece, with Hartman also collecting nine digs.
Setter Reese Booth supplied 37 assists, five kills, six digs and a block assist. Jadyn Petersen led all players with 16 digs and served one of UNI’s four aces, while Taryn Rice added nine digs.
Maryn Bixby led the Panthers at the net with six blocks and contributed three kills.
The performance followed UNI’s sweep of UIC, which brought the Panthers within one victory of the overall MVC streak record.
UNI finishes with a 25-6 rout
Northern Iowa scored the first five points of the opening set and seven of the first eight. After Evansville responded, a six-point Panther run helped establish a 20-12 advantage.
Dykstra hammered eight kills in the opening frame as UNI hit .455 with 19 kills on its way to a 25-17 victory.
The Panthers produced another 19 kills in the second set, hitting .395. Dykstra added five kills, while Hartman and Clubb each contributed four as UNI rolled to a 25-12 win.
The final set was even more decisive. UNI hit .421, recorded 10 kills and capitalized on 12 Evansville attack errors to finish the sweep, 25-6.
Petersen reaches milestone, players approach their own
Petersen’s 650th career victory also moved her within four wins of 400 career MVC regular-season victories.
UNI improved to 63-3 all-time against Evansville and has won nine consecutive meetings with the Purple Aces. Friday’s result also secured the program’s 40th season with a winning conference record.
Hartman moved into 18th place on UNI’s career kills list with 1,182, passing Amy Sampson. She is also 86 digs away from reaching 1,000 and joining the Panthers’ Double Grand Club.
Dykstra needs 81 kills to become the 33rd Panther to reach 1,000 career kills. Booth is 28 assists away from becoming the 12th player in program history to reach 2,000.
