CHARLES CITY — A four-vehicle crash on Highway 18 in Charles City sent one person to the hospital and left another woman injured after a chain-reaction collision on September 22.
Charles City police were called to the 2900 block of Highway 18 at approximately 7:39 p.m.
Police say driver failed to stop
According to the Charles City Police Department, Ronald Mahan, 83, of Charles City was driving a white Chevrolet Equinox when he failed to come to a complete stop and struck a white Chevrolet Silverado driven by Ryan Idler, 47, of Ionia.
The impact pushed the Silverado into two additional vehicles, creating a four-car domino-style crash.
Police estimated total damage from the collision at approximately $20,000.
Two people report injuries
One person was transported to Floyd County Medical Center for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash.
Another woman involved in the collision also reported injuries but declined ambulance transport. She was later taken to Floyd County Medical Center by private vehicle.
Another serious Highway 18 crash in Floyd County
The crash adds to a series of significant collisions along Highway 18 in Floyd County this year. In July, NIT reported on a wrong-way pickup that slammed head-on into an SUV on Highway 18, seriously injuring two people.
More recently, a Mason City driver had to be extricated after a violent Highway 18 head-on crash sent another pickup into a ditch in flames.
Charles City police did not report any additional charges or citations in the initial incident summary.
