CHARLES CITY — A Charles City man accused of assault and sexual misconduct earlier this year has admitted guilt in two Floyd County criminal cases, including a negotiated plea that resulted in a 20-day jail sentence.
Cam Davidson Grubbs, 18, entered guilty pleas following his April arrest by Charles City police.
As NorthIowaToday.com previously reported, officers located Grubbs during a warrant check in the 800 block of Allison Street at approximately 6:48 p.m. on April 13, 2026.
The warrants stemmed from an alleged incident on April 8. Grubbs was taken to the Floyd County Jail and initially held on a $3,000 cash-only bond.
Grubbs was originally accused of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse and indecent exposure. Subsequent court filings amended the charges in Floyd County case AGCR030923 to first-degree harassment and indecent exposure.
Grubbs (pictured at top) submitted a waiver of rights and guilty plea on May 28. Court records show the state filed its sentencing agreement on June 2, and Judge Elizabeth Batey accepted the plea on June 5.
The charges include:
Indecent exposure under Iowa Code section 709.9(1), a serious misdemeanor.
First-degree harassment under Iowa Code section 708.7(2)(a)(4), an aggravated misdemeanor.
Sentencing was initially scheduled for July 17 but was continued until July 31. A court reporter’s memorandum was filed following that proceeding, although the resulting sentence had not yet been entered into the online case summary.
A separate assault charge was handled in Floyd County case SMCR030925.
Grubbs pleaded guilty through a negotiated and voluntary agreement on May 13 to assault with intent to cause pain or injury, a simple misdemeanor. Judge Ann Troge sentenced him to 20 days in jail and gave him credit for time already served.
The court also modified a protective no-contact order following the assault conviction.
Court records show Grubbs was ordered released from custody in the more serious case on July 17. A judge subsequently appointed counsel and a guardian ad litem while the remaining sentencing proceedings continued.
