ESTHERVILLE — Linda Lou Schmidtke, 76, of Estherville, passed away at her home on Friday, July 3, 2026.
Linda was born July 28, 1949, in Estherville, the daughter of Elmer and Leona (Mitchell) Schmidtke. She graduated from Estherville High School in 1968 and spent her life in the community she proudly called home.
According to her obituary, Linda devoted 40 years of her career to Berkley’s, later known as Pure Fishing, before retiring in 2014. Her dedication and work ethic earned the respect of coworkers throughout her four decades with the company.
Service to others remained an important part of Linda’s life after retirement. She volunteered at the nursing home in Estherville and was an active member of the VFW Auxiliary.
Her obituary notes that reading was Linda’s greatest passion. She also treasured spending time with friends and remained a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville.
Linda is survived by many cousins and numerous friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness and quiet generosity.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Leona Schmidtke, and her sister, Priscilla.
Visitation was held from 1 to 2 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 2026, at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville.
