WEST DES MOINES – An Iowa woman is behind bars and facing felonies after a baby drowned in a bathtub.
On October 31, 2024, around 7:00 PM, West Des Moines Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to 1254 Office Park Road on a reported bathtub drowning. First responders arrived and provided care to the 20-month-old patient who was transported to a hospital and pronounced dead.
That day the West Des Moines Police Department opened an investigation into the death. As part of that investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants for 21-year-old Kayla Bevar, charging her with:
– Neglect of a dependent person (C felony)
– Child endangerment resulting in death (B felony)
Bevar was located and arrested on those warrants on December 4, 2024 and taken to the Polk County Jail, where she awaits future court appearances.
