CHARLES CITY – A garbage truck blaze early Wednesday in Charles City forced the occupants out of the vehicle before firefighters arrived to handle the incident.
On the morning of July 31, 2024, at 4:24 AM, the Charles City Fire Department was paged to a vehicle fire on the 300 block of 13th Avenue, they reported. Prior to their arrival, dispatch advised that all occupants were able to exit the vehicle safely.
Crews arrived on scene to find a sanitation truck fully engulfed in flames. Crews were able to make quick work of extinguishing the flames but the cab appeared to be a complete loss.
After the fire was out, crews assisted Chatfield towing with scene cleanup.
