AMES – Weekly honors continue to roll in for Iowa State Cyclone quarterback Rocco Becht after his impressive performance in the win against Oklahoma State. The Cyclone signal caller has been named the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Week, the Maxwell Football Club announced Tuesday.

Becht completed 27 of 38 passes for 348 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions in a 34-27 victory over the Cowboys. He is one of four quarterbacks in ISU history to record a game with 300-plus yards passing, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Becht’s three touchdowns, 27 completions and 348 yards were all career bests.

With the win, the Wesley Chapel, Fla. native joined Brock Purdy and Kyle Kempt as quarterbacks under coach Matt Campbell to win their first career Big 12 start.

Becht has a passing touchdown in each of his first four career starts and his total of seven on the season are the fifth-most in school history by a freshman.

The Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award has been presented to the College Freshman Player of the Year since 2018 and is named in honor of Shaun Alexander, a former standout at the University of Alabama and with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL.

Becht was also named to the Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 List for Week 4, which recognizes the top quarterback performances from around the country, yesterday.
