OBIT: Alan J. Duea

Alan J. Duea, 82, of Gilbert, AZ and longtime resident of Clear Lake, IA passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023. In July of 1960, Alan enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War.

Alan J. Duea, 82, of Gilbert, AZ and longtime resident of Clear Lake, IA passed away Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Dignity Mercy Medical Center in Gilbert, AZ.

A visitation celebrating Alan’s life will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 310 1st Ave. N., Clear Lake, IA.

Alan Joseph Duea was born November 28, 1940 in Belmond, IA, the son of Joseph and Eunice (Fincham) Duea. He graduated from Thornton High School and attended Iowa State University. In July of 1960, Alan enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in March of 1964.

On August 13, 1961 Alan was united in marriage to Christina Engebretson in Sheffield, IA. Together they would be blessed with two children and 62 years of marriage. Alan (AD) worked as a Supervisor for CLTel in Clear Lake where he oversaw installations and purchasing of new equipment for 42 years until his retirement in 2006. He returned to working part-time at CLTel until 2018.

Alan loved living in Clear Lake and gave so much back to the community. He served on the 4-H Foundation Board and as a 4-H leader in both Cerro Gordo and Mitchell counties. He also was a member of the Clear Lake Jaycees, RAGBRAI committees, and the City of Clear Lake Planning and Zoning Commission. He and Christina were longtime members of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake before moving to Arizona five years ago.

Alan’s lifelong activities included his love of volunteering at Golf Tournaments in Iowa, Minnesota and Arizona, cooking for friends and family, showing cattle throughout the US and watching and attending many Nascar Races. He enjoyed being on the lake, boating and fishing. But most of all he loved being around his family.

After moving to Gilbert, an Arizona golf community in 2019, Alan enjoyed many hobbies; being a member of the Trilogy Bums Golf Group, Cooking Club, Iowa Group, as well as being an officer on the Trilogy Document Membership Committee.

Those grateful in sharing in Alan’s life include his wife, Christina, Gilbert, AZ; children, Daphne (Gary)Feekes, Gilbert, AZ and Dustin Duea (Jesslyn Hall), Scottsdale, AZ; granddaughters, Felicia (Colby)Andrews, Clear Lake, IA, Allorie Feekes, Tempe, AZ and Emanuelle Hall, Phoenix, AZ; Great Granddaughters, Kree and Kinsley Andrews Clear Lake, IA. Siblings, Carolyn (Bill) Coe, Ventura, IA, Steve (Kathy) Duea, Mankato, MN, and Joe (Angela) Duea, Chicago, IL. In-laws, Emily and Duane Kruckenberg, Bertha and Jim Heilskov, Martin Engebretson and LuAnn (Bob) Sharp, along with many Nieces and Nephews. Alan had a special cousin, Jim Duea, Ames, IA.

Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Eunice Duea and his in-laws, Everett and Betty Engebretson, Beverly and Junior Munnik, and Bob Sharp.

Should friends desire, memorials may be left in Alan’s honor to: Cerro Gordo 4H Foundation or Zion Lutheran Children’s Fund.
