MASON CITY – Mason City’s only remaining bowling alley, Mystic Lanes, was destroyed in a fire Sunday night.
On May 28th, at approximately 9:12 PM, the Mason City Fire Department was dispatched for the report of a building fire at Mystic Lanes bowling alley, located at 2571 4th Street SE. Fire crews arrived to find the building fulling engulfed in flames. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading.
4th St. SE was closed to traffic for a period time as onlookers and gawkers gathered to watch the flames.
Electric power was turned off to the surrounding area due to aerial operations close to high line wires. injuries were reported, Emergency crews cleared the scene at approximately 4:37 a.m.
Fire crews were assisted by Mason City Police Department, Clear Lake Fire Department, Nora Springs Fire Department, Alliant Energy – Gas & Electric and Cerro Gordo Emergency Management.
The fire is still under investigation.
Mason City’s former, other bowling alley, the Rose Bowl, was involved in a serious fire back in 2014, caused by an electrical failure. (Photos of the fire, here.) A tornado in 2022 ripped through southern Mason City and destroyed the building. It has been refitted for another use at this time.
