Northern Iowa man suffers traumatic head injury after confrontation with couple on motorcycle

LAKE VIEW, IOWA - Police are seeking suspects after a Northern Iowa man suffered a traumatic head injury after a confrontation, and he was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital.

LAKE VIEW, IOWA – Police are seeking suspects after a Northern Iowa man suffered a traumatic head injury after a confrontation, and he was airlifted to a Des Moines hospital.

At 1:04 AM on Saturday, May 20, 2023, 50-year-old Stanley “Sam” Mortensen II was found unresponsive and lying in the street in the 100 block of West 4th Street, Lake View. When the first responders arrived, they found Mortensen standing and leaning against his truck that was parked in the middle of the street. Mortensen could not tell responders what had happened. Mortensen was transported by EMS to Loring Hospital in Sac City. After examination, he was air-lifted to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, IA.
Mortensen is being treated for a life threatening injury to his head.

Law enforcement is aware that at least a verbal argument had taken place between Mortensen and a female and another male who were on a motorcycle. Lake View Police Department did an initial investigation, and on Monday May 22nd, asked the Sac County Sheriff’s Office to conduct any further investigation. Sac County Sheriff’s Office Detectives and the Sac County Attorney’s Office have been working together in this investigation.
