BURLINGTON – An Iowa man suffering from gun shot wounds to both legs managed to flee from cops Sunday afternoon.

The Burlington Police Department continues to investigate a shooting that occurred just before 2pm on Sunday, May 7, 2023, despite the victim’s refusal to cooperate.

DESCOM dispatched officers to 1921 Summer Street following the report that a man had been shot. Officers arrived on scene and found the victim had been shot one time and the bullet had struck the victim in both thighs. The victim was uncooperative with police but the victim’s girlfriend said the victim told her he was going outside. Shortly after that, the girlfriend said she heard yelling outside the residence followed by the sound of a gunshot. The girlfriend said she saw a black car leaving the area and the victim told her he had been shot. The girlfriend said she called 911 and she then saw the victim running from the area.

The victim was located a short distance from 1921 Summer Street but he refused to answer any of the officer’s questions. He was transported to the hospital by ambulance. Officers located a bullet slug underneath a car parked in the driveway at 1921 Summer Street.

The shooting remains under investigation. A reward of up to $1000.00 is possible.
