Beryl Jean McGee, 88 of Greene, died Sunday, May 7, 2023, at Valley View Care Center, Greene. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. Instead of wearing black, please wear red to honor Jean with her favorite color. Visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will be immediately after the service at Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.
Jean McGee was born in 1934 in Lincoln, England, daughter of George and Ellen Blow. She received her education in Lincoln and was united in marriage to Don McGee on February 11, 1952 in Lincoln. She moved to the US in 1953 and spent a few years in Shell Rock before moving to Greene for the remainder of her life.
Jean was a master knitter and enjoyed making sweaters. She started taking care of children in the 1970’s and she loved them all from Nicholas in the beginning to Zoey in the end. She enjoyed camping with her camping groups, doing jigsaw puzzles and playing cards, especially with her Thursday night gang. She was a member for 55 years of the Greene American Legion Auxiliary and worked the Veteran’s Day dinners and Avenue of Flags for many years.
Jean is survived by her son, Russell, her daughter, Brenda, grandson, Mike (Vanessa) McGee, two great-grandchildren, Sara & Thomas McGee; daughter-in-law, Darlene McGee; sister-in-laws Sylvia Blow of England, Joanne Gilbert of Mason City and many nieces and nephews and several special friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Don, her sons Roger & Ken, sister Betty Bugg of England, brothers Bernard Blow and George (Bill) Blow, sister-in-law Lavinia Blow, brother-in-law Ron Bugg also of England and her parents, George & Ellen Blow.
