Betty J. Schulte-Brown, 93, of LaCrescent, MN and formerly of Manly, passed away peacefully Monday, February 13, 2023 at Springbrook Assisted Living, LaCrescent, MN.

Betty J. Schulte-Brown, 93, of LaCrescent, MN and formerly of Manly, passed away peacefully Monday, February 13, 2023 at Springbrook Assisted Living, LaCrescent, MN.

She will be laid to rest in Manly Cemetery in the Spring.

Betty was born March 7, 1929 in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Louis Evans and Ila Ameila (Erickson) Tanner. She attended Mason City High School, graduating in 1946. Soon after she began work at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, working her way up from operator to management. On February 28, 1952 she married Virgil Schulte, and to this union three children were born: Pam, David and Lori. Virgil died suddenly in 1976. On November 4, 1978 she married John Brown at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly. The couple made their home in Topeka, Kansas for some time before returning to Iowa and wintering in Texas. They enjoyed traveling, entertaining friends and hosting gatherings. Betty’s greatest joy in life was her family, especially becoming a grandmother.

Betty was a strong, devoted woman who was full of life. Her strong willed, loving nature will be remembered fondly by those who loved her.

She was a longtime member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in LaCrescent, MN.

Survivors include her children, Pam (Bill) Stockton of Dothan, Alabama; David (Cheryl) Schulte of LaCrescent, MN and Lori (Jim) Bergo of Joice, IA; grandchildren, Jennifer (David) Buchen, Greg (Becky) Schulte, Kristy (Robert) Lipscomb, Daniel (Kelly) Schulte, Amanda (Ryan) Huey, Morgan (Blake) Crawford, Adam and Isaac Bergo; 16 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Preceding her in death are her parents; first husband, Virgil; husband, John; infant son, Danny; and siblings, Marlene, Robert, Larry and Rolland.
