CEDAR RAPIDS - An Iowa man is charged with murder after allegedly shooting his victim dead Wednesday morning.

CEDAR RAPIDS – An Iowa man is charged with murder after allegedly shooting his victim dead Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at 4:45 AM, the City’s Joint Communications Agency received a report of shots fired at in the 2100 block of Buckingham Dr. NW. Officers arrived on the scene and located a 27-year-old male victim in an apartment with gunshot wounds. Emergency medical care was administered at the scene. Cedar Rapids Firefighters and Area Ambulance Service personnel assisted officers. The victim was transported to a local hospital and later declared deceased. He has been identified as Jorge Maldonado-Vasquez, of Cedar Rapids.

Based on the preliminary investigation, police say, the shooting does not appear to be a random incident. 21-year-old Brannon Johnson of Cedar Rapids, has been arrested and charged with first-degree murder and is now in the Linn County Jail.

There is an active, ongoing investigation and no further details are available.
