MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A former Hawkeye’s late free throws doomed Iowa State in this Big 12 road game, as the #11 Cyclones fell to the West Virginia Mountaineers, 76-71.
Iowa State (16-7, 7-4 Big 12) played from behind much of the game against the West Virginia Mountaineers (15-9, 4-7 Big 12). Iowa State was ahead on a late field gaol, 71-70, but West Virginia closed things out from there.
Former Hawkeye Joe Toussaint made two free throws for the Mountaineers to give them the lead for good.
Leading the Cyclone in scoring were Jalen Holmes with 18 points, freshman Tamin Lipsey with 16 points and Caleb Grill with 13 points.
NOTES:
-ISU has held all but one Big 12 opponent below its scoring average.
-Caleb Grill surpassed 500 points as a Cyclone.
-Jaren Holmes made the 100th-consecutive start of his career.
