Donald Reffer, age 63 of Algona, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.

Donald Reffer, age 63 of Algona, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM at the Water’s Edge Nature Center in Algona. Military rites will be conducted by the Whittemore American Legion Seely-Walsh Post #425, Algona American Legion Hagg-Turner Post #90, and the Algona VFW Post #2541.

Donald Henry Reffer, the son of Charles and Rosemary (Stebritz) Reffer, was born on March 2, 1959 in Algona, Iowa. He attended Algona High School, graduating in 1977. After school he joined the U.S. Air Force for 4 years. Don owned and operated B&W Control Specialist. On June 3, 1983, he was united in marriage to Janet Colleen Smith in Algona, Iowa. Don was a member of the Irvington Presbyterian Church, the Izaak Walton League, NRA, and ABATE. Don could always be found outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and traveling on his motorcycle. Most of all, Don loved spending time with his grandchildren and helping others.

Left to cherish Don’s memory are his children, Holly (Bo Terwilliger) Reffer of Algona and Nate (Bobbie Dodrill) Reffer of Livermore; grandchildren, Cohen Reffer, Porter Reffer, Grayson Terwilliger, and Payten Terwilliger; sister, Dana (Duane) Walker of Algona; brother, Robert “Bob” (Jan) Reffer of Booneville Ar; brother-in-law Joel Dahlgren of Macksburg Ia; along with many nieces and nephews. His significant other, Carol Gridley, her children and grandchildren, Best friend Bill “Ole” Walker of Spearfish SD; sister-in-law Sue (Denny) Wilson, brother-in-law Larry (Sheryl) Smith, sister-in-law Barb (Jeff) Hanson. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet Reffer; brother, Terry Reffer; two infant sisters, Nancy and Karen; sister, Cathy Dahlgren, brother-in-law Gene Smith, sisters-in-law Kathy Smith and Judy Smith.
