MASON CITY – A fundraiser was held in Mason City to raise money for a local organization focused on empowering fathers.
Dads With a Purpose is active in the Des Moines and Mason City areas, focused on “providing a safe, structured, and sober environment that facilitates growth and change by fostering a sense of belonging and self-worth.” Crime and substance abuse can tear families apart. Dads With a Purpose seeks to “unify families, create and repair relationships, and help men become positive and productive members of our society.”
In an effort to bolster these efforts and raise funds for operations, a fundraiser was held at the east Hy-Vee in Mason City on November 22 and 23. Volunteers with the non-profit organization worked those mornings bagging groceries and loading cars for patrons.
Kevin Valentine, formerly of Mason City and a Program Director for Dads With a Purpose, helped lead the fundraiser. He told NIT the success of the event was owed to volunteers and the generosity of the folks they assisted that day, as well as Hy-Vee for partnering with them.
“We had a great two days in Mason,” Mr. Valentine said. “Raised several hundred dollars. Hy-Vee was excellent to work with and our volunteers tried hard to assist their customers. We thank everyone involved for their generosity. Hoping to have more events like this one in the future.”
