DES MOINES – A 13-year-old Iowa boy was caught at school with a handgun and is charged with attempted murder and other charges after a child was shot by the suspect in an Iowa neighborhood during a robbery.

Police In Iowa’s capitol city of Des Moines made an arrest at a local middle school on December 6, 2022. The arrest was in connection to a shooting incident that took place on November 20, 2022. In that incident, a juvenile was shot during a robbery attempt in the 600 block of Cutler Avenue in Des Moines. DMPD Crimes Against Persons detectives investigated that incident and identified the suspect, a 13-year-old Des Moines resident.

DMPD patrol officers and detectives located the suspect at a middle school on the city’s southside on December 6. At the time of the suspect’s arrest, police say, he was armed with a handgun and was in possession of marijuana.

The suspect has been referred to juvenile courts for the following offenses:

•Attempted Murder
•Robbery – 1st Degree
•Assault With A Weapon
•Going Armed With Intent
•Person Ineligible To Carry Firearms
•Carrying Weapons On School Grounds
•Possession Of Marijuana
