OBIT: Marjorie E. Michels

Marjorie (Werner) Michels, 99, of Stacyville, Iowa passed away Sunday September 4 at the Good Samaritan Society Home in Saint Ansgar.

Marjorie Michels was born October 12, 1922 to John and Julia (Hemann) Werner of Meyer Iowa. She lived on the family farm northeast of Meyer, and attended Sacred Heart School. On February 6, 1945, she married Ralph B Michels at Sacred Heart Church in Meyer. They were married for 60 years, and raised 9 children on their dairy farm southeast of Stacyville. In 1975 they moved to Stacyville, where Ralph continued his Insurance Sales career.

She was a devout member of Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, and active in the community as a 4-H Leader; member and officer of St Rita’s Catholic Order of Foresters; Visitation Christian Mothers; Osage VFW Auxiliary; and Stacyville Legion Auxillary.

Marjorie was an avid gardener through spring and summer; while spending her winters designing and sewing quilts. She enjoyed fishing at their Faribault Minnesota cabin; and playing cards with family and friends. She traveled often to visit her children and grandchildren scattered around the country. She was an accomplished cook and baker, who thrived when gathering her family together for robust meals.

She is survived by her children: Russell (Diane) Michels of Green Valley AZ., their children Lisa Michels (Scott Stengaard), Melissa Emanuel, their grandchildren Gabriel Stengaard, Amelia Emanuel; Norman Michels of Lakewood CO., his children Tyler Michels, Mikayla Michels; Mark (Dianna) Michels of Green Valley AZ.; Loren (Mary) Michels of Faribault MN., their children Kathleen Michels (Martin Schoen), Jonathan Michels, Alycia Michels; Jeanne Penfold of Holland NY., her children Jesse (Sarah) Penfold, Kate (Jarred) Weber, Abigail Penfold, her grandchildren Alora Penfold, Sage Webber, Vander Webber; Richard Michels (Susan Uedelhofen) of Clive IA; Ralph (Susan) Michels of Apple Valley MN., their children Benjamin (Melissa) Michels, Kollin Michels (fiance Melissa Wagner), William Michels; Gary (Rhonda) Michels of Ventura IA.; Tony (Barbara) Michels of Oak Hill VA., their children Julia Michels, Anna Michels.

Her sister Theresa (Roy) Baldus of Austin MN.; sisters-in-law: Lucille Werner of Mason City; Mary Michels of Stacyville; Karen Theisen of Dubuque; brother’s-in-law: Roy Baldus; Rex Machacek both of Austin.

She is preceded in death by her husband Ralph B Michels; parents John and Julia Werner; brothers and sisters: Leon Werner; Agnes (Chuck) Pavlick; Donald Werner; John J Werner; Mary Ann (Rex) Machacek. Sisters-in-law: Viola Shuchart; Agnes Michels; brothers-in-law: Eugene Michels; Norbert Michels; Elmer Michels.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Monday, September 12 at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Father Raymond Burkle officiating. Interment will be at Visitation Cemetery. Visitation will be at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville on Sunday, September 11 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm; and at the church on Monday morning one hour prior to the service.
