OBIT: Tillet Marion Haaland

Tillet Marion Haaland, 92, of Osage, died in his home on Saturday, September 3, 2022. Tillet was born to Tollef and Martha (Tjelmeland) Haaland on June 2, 1930. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in McCallsburg, Iowa.

Til married Lois Smith on June 3,1951. They were blessed with four sons, Frank, Dean, Dennis, and Craig.

He joined the Army in 1951 and served in Alaska until 1953 when he was honorably discharged. He was a member of the American legion at McCallsburg.

Following his discharge, he returned to McCallsburg and farmed until 1970 when the family moved to Osage. He farmed and then sold feed and then seed until his retirement.

Tillet was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage. He served on the stewardship board, worked with youth groups, and also served as President of the congregation.

He was a lifelong member of the VFW, where he served as Quartermaster.

Til was an active member of the community and served as president of Corn Growers of Mitchell Co., was a member of the Sons of Norway, and on the Farm Bureau Board.

Til enjoyed being involved with the activities of his sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love of antique tractors and tractor rides was another hobby he enjoyed. He and Lois made a couple trips to Norway and visited family which was a highlight for him. In their free time, if they weren’t playing cards with friends, you could find them on the dance floor.

Tillet is survived by his wife, Lois of 71 years, sons, Frank (Vicki) of Waverly, Dean (Terri) of Adel, Dennis (Renae) of Armstrong, and Craig (Lori) of Ankeny, 13 grandchildren, and 22 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Ole, and Juel, his sister, Myrtle, and Sisters-in-laws, Anna & Dorothy.

Pallbearers are grandsons Matthew Haaland, Eric Haaland, Rob Haaland, Ryan Haaland, Nick Haaland, Thomas Haaland, Nathan Haaland, and Trevor Haaland. Honorary Pallbearers are granddaughters Melanie Hegdal, Michele Haaland, Heather Haaland, Kiera Haaland Mathew, and Morgan Carswell.

Visitation will be Tuesday, September 6, 4:00-6:00 pm at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and funeral Wednesday, September 7, at 10:00 am at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Osage, Iowa.
