EMMET COUNTY – A wanted Louisiana man was caught speeding in Northern Iowa, armed with a stolen handgun.
According to Emmet County Sheriff Mike Martens, a sheriff’s deputy on patrol July 22 at 5:40 PM observed a vehicle traveling southbound in the 2000 block of 490th Avenue at 76 miles per hour. Upon initiating a traffic stop in regard to the speed violation, it was determined that the driver of the vehicle, 33-year-old Antonio Babineaux of Opelousas, Louisiana, did not have a valid driver’s license.
Upon further investigation at the scene, it was determined that the Babineaux was wanted by the State of Texas, found to be in possession of a stolen handgun and was in possession of a controlled substance.
As a result, Babineaux was placed under arrest at the scene and transported to the Emmet County Jail where he was charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm as a Convicted Felon, Trafficking in Stolen Weapons 1st Offense, Possession of Marijuana 1st Offense, No Driver’s License and Speeding. He remains jailed at this time.
