MASON CITY – A parking “disagreement” between campers in Mason City led to a shooting Friday night.
On Friday, May 27, 2022, at approximately 10:16 p.m., the Mason City Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at MacNider Campground, 901 Birch Drive, that followed a disagreement between campers.
Officers arrived on scene and found one person who had sustained a gunshot wound. They were also able to quickly identify the shooter and secure the weapon. The injured party was transported to MercyOne North Iowa by Mason City Fire Department paramedics.
At the scene, officers were able to complete a preliminary investigation and identify witnesses to the incident. Based on the information we have available at this time, the incident started over a parking issue at the campground. Once the investigation is completed, it will be sent to the Cerro Gordo County Attorney’s Office for review for criminal charges. There is no ongoing threat to the community related to this incident.
