Northern Iowa man dead after fiery two-vehicle crash near Algona

RURAL ALGONA – A Northern Iowa man is dead after a fiery two-vehicle crash near Algona.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the accident took place May 6, 2022. At 8:57 AM that morning, two vehicles collided at 70th Avenue and 160th Street in Kossuth county, just outside Algona. Chade Bjork, age 49 of Albert City, Iowa, was southbound on 70th Avenue driving a 2000 Freightliner semi. The patrol says Bjork failed to yield at the intersection of 160th Street, and was struck in the middle of the intersection by a 2006 Peterbilt semi operated by 48-year-old Allan Schuler of Thompson, Iowa. Both vehicles entered a ditch and caught fire, burning completely.

As a result, Schuler died in the accident. Bjork was seriously inured and transported by helicopter to a Mason City hospital.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by Kossuth sheriff’s office, Algona police, Motor Vehicle
Enforecment, Iowa DNR, Kossuth Cunty EMS, Kossuth County Medical Examiner, and the Algona Fire Department.
