Texting while driving is a dangerous national epidemic

EMMETSBURG – A Northern Iowa teen destroyed her Ford Escape in an auto accident while texting.

On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at 7:24 PM, the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call of a single vehicle rollover accident in the 3800 block of 440th Avenue near Emmetsburg.  After investigation into the accident, it was determined a 17 year old female was northbound in the 3800 block of 440th Avenue, operating a 2003 Ford Escape, was using an electronic communication device – cell phone, and failed to negotiate a curve in the road.  The vehicle  entered the west ditch causing the vehicle to roll on to its top.  The driver was checked at the scene by the Palo Alto County Ambulance Service and was released from the scene with minor injuries.  The 2003 Ford Escape is considered a total loss.  The driver was issued citations for use of electronic communication device – restricted license, and failure to maintain control – both simple misdemeanors.

Assisting the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office at the scene was the Emmetsburg Police Department, Palo Alto County Ambulance Service, and Wickman Towing.
