OBIT: Mary Sue Graettinger

Mary Sue Graettinger was born in Estherville, Iowa on March 11, 1950, to Al and Violet Graettinger and grew up on the family farm near Graettinger. She was the youngest of six children, graduating from Graettinger High School in 1968. Mary pursued nursing at Creighton University and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1972. After graduation, Mary worked at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha. She later moved to St. Louis where she enjoyed working as a Home Health nurse. While living in St. Louis, she became a passionate fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and took winter trips to their spring training camp in Florida. Mary enjoyed summer trips to Graettinger for reunions with her siblings and their spouses.

In 2013, Mary relocated to Milford, Iowa to be closer to family. She passed-away on October 23, 2021, at Valley View Care Center in Armstrong following an extended illness.

Mary is survived by 4 siblings: sisters Gayle Duncan of Iowa City, Jean Elsenbast of Graettinger, and Carol Strabala of Colorado Springs, and brother Steve (Barb) of Punta Gorda, FL. She is also survived by 18 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Vince Graettinger.

The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at Valley View Care Center for their care of Mary.
