Man shot dead at Ames bar Saturday night

AMES – A man was shot dead at an Ames bar Saturday night.

On October 29, 2021, at 11:57 p.m., the Ames Police Department responded to a report of shots fired near a large crowd of people outside of the Elk’s Lodge, 522 Douglas Avenue. Officers located a 23 year-old male victim, who had been shot. The male was transported to Mary Greeley Medical Center. The male later died as a result of his injuries. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of family.

Investigators are canvassing the area and processing the crime scene. Based on the initial investigation, it appears multiple shots were fired by several groups of people who were attending a private event at the Elk’s Lodge. No other injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made.

The Ames Police Department was assisted in the investigation by Story County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa State University Police Department and Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
